Job summary

Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting maintenance activities for the facility and equipment at the recycling plant, ensuring proper equipment performance, safety compliance, and operational reliability. This role works closely with the maintenance team to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and assist with continuous improvement efforts. This position is based on site at the Strasburg VA plant and reports directly to the Industrial Engineering & Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and operational issues to support production continuity
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment, systems, and facilities to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance
  • Assist with minimizing equipment downtime through timely repairs and maintenance support
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
  • Support installation, commissioning, and upgrades of plant equipment
  • Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment
  • Collaborate with team members and plant operations to address maintenance needs
  • Assist with coordinating repairs and working with vendors or contractors as needed
  • Identify basic opportunities to improve equipment efficiency and performance
  • Ensure proper safeguarding of equipment to prevent injury or damage
  • Comply with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and labor laws at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or technical certification in maintenance, mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, industrial, or recycling environments
  • Basic hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Physically capable and available to work weekends, public holidays, and evenings as needed
