Job summary

Waste Management is hiring a Plant Maintenance Technician to keep our recycling and processing plant running smoothly. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair a wide range of equipment, and support continuous improvements while adhering to safety rules and environmental standards.

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, you will be part of a team working weekdays with potential night and weekend shifts to meet operational needs.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Over 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose/repair major equipment such as balers, conveyors, motors, pumps, and related components.
  • Inspect and rebuild equipment; ensure safety and production are kept up to standard.
  • Assist in improving equipment performance and quality; follow safety procedures and Life Critical Rules.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and work with limited supervision to keep operations running safely.

Responsibilities

Each day, you will play a key role in keeping our plant running at its best by maintaining everything from balers and conveyor belts to gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. You will jump into action when systems fail, using your skills to quickly identify and fix issues, ensuring everything is back up and running safely and efficiently. You will work with cutting-edge equipment and tackle challenges that require both expertise and determination. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Manager, you will help drive the success of our operations, ensuring the plant runs smoothly and safely at all times.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM) and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment and components, including balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters, compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, pumps, forklifts, front-end loaders, and building equipment.
  • Maintain the Daily Equipment Inspections (DEI) backlog.
  • Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and inform the Sr. Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Inspect the quality of third‑party repairs and rebuilds.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance production, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Multitask and manage multiple priorities with efficiency.
  • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
  • Perform work with limited supervision while maintaining high standards of performance.
  • Be flexible with your work schedule, which may include nights and weekends to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA standards and ensure all work is completed according to safety procedures.
  • Perform repairs in line with Waste Management Safety, Life Critical Rules, and OSHA requirements.
Requirements
  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Over 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre‑employment drug screen and physical.
