Job summary

FIXX Energy is seeking a Maintenance Technologist 1 in Smyrna, TN to support the Maintenance team. You will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on production equipment, focusing on electrical, controls, and mechanical systems.

The role reports to the Maintenance Manager and emphasizes safety and continuous improvement. Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in industrial maintenance, experience with PLCs/HMIs (Omron/Siemens preferred), and ability to read schematics and manage data

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years industrial maintenance experience.
• Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience in automotive, battery, or electronics sectors is beneficial.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and modifying PLCs and HMIs.
• Ability to read schematics and work with 480V 3-phase systems.
• Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on production line equipment.
• Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs and HMIs for process automation.
• Maintain maintenance logs and work orders; report status in meetings.
• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards (IATF16949, VDA 6.3, ISO14001).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve KPIs and drive improvements.
• Assist with general facilities maintenance as needed.

About the Role

FIXX Energy is seeking a(n) Maintenance Technologist 1, who will serve as a key member of the Maintenance team. This role will provide critical support in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of equipment, ensuring efficient and smooth production processes. This role requires hands‑on experience in industrial maintenance, with a focus on electrical, controls, and mechanical systems. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance. This position reports to Maintenance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Resolve day-to-day technical problems on the production line, ensuring equipment and machinery compliance with production and process specifications. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment according tsafety and quality procedures.
• Preventive Maintenance and Repair: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and repairs to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance. Troubleshoot equipment and perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of various systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• PLC and Controls Management: Program, troubleshoot, and modify Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human‑Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for process automation. Knowledge of Omron and Siemens PLCs is highly preferred.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and other documentation. Communicate the status of current projects or tasks with estimated completion times during maintenance meetings.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere tall safety protocols and guidelines, maintaining a safe work environment. Understand and follow all standards of IATF16949, VDA 6.3 quality standards, and ISO14001 environmental standards.
• Collaboration and Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality control, to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Facility Maintenance Support: Aid with building and facilities repairs and maintenance duties as needed, contributing to overall site upkeep.
• Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with machine operation, production line work, or maintenance in the automotive, battery, or electronics sectors is highly beneficial.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and modifying PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMIs (Human‑Machine Interfaces). Experience with Omron and Siemens PLCs is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical maintenance, including the ability to read schematics, understand/troubleshoot motor control circuits, and work with low voltage to 480V, 3-phase systems.
• Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including the ability to read schematics and understand fluid power concepts.
• Basic mechanical skills and understanding of robotics for troubleshooting and teaching paths.
• Ability to work with data and spreadsheets to document maintenance activities and analyze equipment performance.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem‑solving abilities with a keen eye for detail to identify defects and optimize production processes.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Good communication skills to document production data and collaborate effectively with team members.
• Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
