Job summary

FIXX Energy is hiring a QA Lab Technologist in Smyrna, TN to perform daily testing and inspections on batteries and components, ensuring safety and quality. You will work with Quality Engineering to investigate issues, calibrate advanced lab equipment, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or related field.
  • Two+ years of manufacturing or lab experience.
  • Experience with GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-OES and microscopes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Adheres to IATF16949, VDA 6.3 and ISO14001 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment (HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-OES, SEM, CT scanners).
  • Prepare and analyze samples; perform routine quality checks on battery components.
  • Analyze materials to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct failure analysis on manufacturing defects and warranty parts.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to improve operations and development.
  • Present findings and influence leadership on strategic quality decisions.

About The Role

As a QA Lab Technologist, you will perform daily testing and inspections on batteries and components to ensure the highest standards of safety and product quality. Reporting to the Quality Supervisor, you will partner with Quality Engineering to investigate manufacturing and warranty concerns, using your technical expertise to evaluate quality issues and drive continuous improvement.

What You Will Do
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate advanced laboratory equipment, including HPLC, GC‑MS, ICP‑OES, SEM, CT scanners, cycle testing equipment, and optical/digital microscopes.
  • Prepare and analyze samples utilizing wet chemistry methods and perform routine quality checks on various battery components.
  • Analyze materials and finished products to confirm strict conformance to technical specifications.
  • Conduct rigorous failure analysis on manufacturing defects and warranty parts to identify root causes.
  • Resolve complex technical issues, develop alternative solutions, and provide actionable recommendations for current operations and future development.
  • Present findings and influence leadership on specific strategic recommendations regarding operations and product development.

Physical Demands
  • Work within a climate‑controlled, highly automated facility with established safety protocols, moderate noise levels, and a concrete floor layout.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb frequently throughout the shift to support floor operations for extended periods; ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach and lift with hands and arms frequently throughout the day.

Qualifications
What You Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, etc.)
  • Two or more years of manufacturing or other laboratory experience
  • Experience with lab equipment such as GC‑MS, HPLC, ICP‑OES, and microscopes
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949, VDA 6.3 quality standards, and ISO14001 environmental standards.
Nice to Have
  • Experience reporting and presenting on technical laboratory results
  • Experience maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
  • Experience with CT or X‑ray operation and analysis is a plus
