Job summary

St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Riverside, FL seeks a Maintenance Technician to manage daily upkeep of church and parish buildings and grounds. You will perform routine repairs, monitor HVAC, coordinate with contractors, and keep preventive maintenance records to support safe worship spaces.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspect church and parish buildings, equipment, grounds, entrances, and work areas regularly; identify hazards and maintenance needs and report urgent concerns promptly.
• Perform routine repairs and upkeep, including door hardware, minor plumbing, basic carpentry, paint touch-ups, and other building repairs.
• Monitor HVAC operation, replace filters, and coordinate inspection, service, and repairs with qualified contractors.
• Address electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and stormwater issues and arrange licensed or specialized service through the supervisor when required.
• Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule and records of inspections, repairs, service visits, and outstanding work.
• Respond to facility emergencies, secure affected areas, and coordinate timely repairs with the Director of Facilities.
• Prepare spaces and equipment for parish use as assigned, taking care to minimize disruptions to worship, ministry activities, and visitors.
• Coordinate the on-site work of approved capital improvement projects across the campus in consultation with the Director of Facilities and parish leadership.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician manages the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and upkeep of St. Paul’s Church and parish-managed buildings and grounds. The position performs routine repairs, coordinates specialized service and preventive maintenance, responds to urgent facility issues, and keeps the Director of Facilities informed of conditions and completed work. The technician also coordinates and monitors approved capital improvement projects across the parish campus, working with contractors, parish, and school personnel as needed.

Duties And Responsibilities

Church and Parish Facility Maintenance

• Inspect church and parish buildings, equipment, grounds, entrances, and work areas regularly; identify hazards and maintenance needs and report urgent concerns promptly.


• Perform routine repairs and upkeep, including door hardware, minor plumbing, basic carpentry, paint touch-ups, and other building repairs.

Campus Capital Improvements

• Coordinate the on-site work of approved capital improvement projects across the campus in consultation with the Director of Facilities and parish leadership.


• Communicate schedules, site access, work areas, and disruptions with contractors, parish staff, and school contacts when projects affect shared campus spaces.


• Monitor project progress and workmanship, document issues and completed work, and provide regular status updates to the Director of Facilities, Facilities Council, and Pastor as requested.


• Track contractor visits, completed work, outstanding items, and closeout needs; bring proposed scope changes, costs, or safety concerns to the supervisor for approval.


• Help maintain safe work zones and coordinate access in accordance with campus security and applicable safety procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• One to three years of related experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or contractor coordination preferred.


• Working knowledge of common building systems and the ability to read technical instructions, maintenance records, diagrams, and schedules.


• Ability to organize multiple maintenance requests, document work, and communicate clearly with leadership, staff, and vendors.


• Communicate respectfully with clergy, staff, contractors, parishioners, and visitors; maintain a welcoming and safe environment.


• Follow applicable safety procedures and diocesan requirements, including any requirements for work near school areas.


• Exercise sound judgment about when to perform work directly and when to request qualified outside assistance.


• Act in the best interests of St. Paul’s Church and perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor.


• Ability to respect and support the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic Church.


• Ability to meet diocesan background screening and training requirements and maintain eligibility throughout employment.

COMMUNICATION AND COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of leadership, vendors, employees, and the general public. Must have average computer skills, including aptitude with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
