UGMTC’s facilities department is dedicated to providing an environment that is conducive for our services, programs, residents, clients, and staff to succeed. This is primarily done through the creation and maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace environment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of tasks related to the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all UGMTC buildings, facility systems and equipment. These duties may be performed individually or collectively as part of a team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides general support and performs minor repairs of UGMTC buildings, facility systems and equipment; supports major repair issues under the supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator Technician, Director – Facilities, or a licensed professional.
- Performs preventative maintenance procedures on a routine scheduled basis.
- Works with the maintenance team to ensure work orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identifies and documents facility repair and maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed.
- Provides observations and suggestions to the maintenance team to improve the condition of organizational facilities; suggests improvement to maintenance processes and procedures.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Provides excellent customer service to and interacts calmly and reasonably with staff and clients in a professional manner to solve issues.
- Reports any immediate safety hazards and threats to security.
- Maintains co-operative relationships and communication with other departments to ensure access and positive experiences for UGMTC residents and support achievement of program objectives.
- Represents the Christian values and ethics of UGMTC when interacting with donors, residents, staff, and vendors. Responds to questions regarding UGMTC’s mission, programs and services.
- Participates in UGMTC sponsored spiritual enrichment activities, including staff prayer and devotions.
- At any time, with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
- Prior work experience in facilities or construction maintenance
- Valid Driver’s license and excellent driving record
- 5-8 years of experience (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Supports UGMTC’s statement of Christian faith and has desire to share that faith, prayer and knowledge with staff, volunteers and clients.
- Ability to repair and maintain a variety of appliances and building systems.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following areas (highly preferred): heating/cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical and water treatment systems
- Familiar with and able to use hand and power tools, as needed.
- Ability to work calmly and remain professional in a sometimes-stressful environment.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and frequently change priorities.
- Exceptional judgment, self-control, and professional boundaries.
- Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures.
- Proficiency in the operation of Microsoft Office software.
- Adaptability to look at new and different ways to perform a task.
- Self-motivated and strives for the continuous improvement of outcomes.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively one-on-one and in group settings with a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse community.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work is performed in an emergency shelter / transitional housing environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, climbing ladder, and other physical activities
- Work is performed in an environment that may cause encounters with men and women in various states of dress.
