Job summary

Steward + Helm is seeking a Service Technician to maintain and repair property systems, ensuring safety and comfort for residents. The role covers HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and other essential components, including unit make-readies.

You will support the Resident Service Director and contribute to preventative maintenance while delivering high-quality customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in residential or commercial maintenance or related fields.
• EPA Certification is required.
• CPO Certification is required.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, events, and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC systems, electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, appliances, drywall, carpentry, flooring, and other property components.
• Monitor, prioritize, and complete service requests while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• Assist in apartment make-readies to meet company move-in standards.
• Support preventative maintenance programs and safety compliance.
• Repair and replace materials across interior and exterior structures and systems.
• Paint interiors/exteriors and repair sheetrock/woodwork as needed.

Job Overview:

The Service Technician plays a vital role in maintaining and repairing the physical elements of the property to meet the company’s established standards and legal requirements. The position involves diagnosing and addressing issues in areas such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, dry wall, exterior structures, and household appliances. The Service Technician also supports the Resident Service Director by assisting with preventative maintenance and ensuring the timely completion of apartment make-readies, while delivering high-quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Operations:

• Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC systems, electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, appliances, drywall, carpentry, flooring, exterior structures, and other essential property components.
• Monitor, prioritize, and complete service requests while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Assist in apartment make-readies, ensuring all units meet company standards for move-ins.
• Work alongside the Resident Service Director to implement preventative maintenance programs and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Repair and replace apartment materials or address maintenance requests, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, interior and exterior structures, appliances, and apartment make-readies.
• Paint interior and exterior structures, repair sheetrock, and woodwork with carpenter's tools.
• Respond promptly to all on-call pages/requests.
• Maintain property curb appeal by regularly picking up grounds and ensuring clean, well-kept exteriors.

Inventory and Supplies Management:

• Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in accordance with company policies.
• Assist in inventory tracking and recommend improvements to enhance repair efficiency.
• Ensure that all required logs, paperwork, or checklists related to inventory tracking or hazardous chemicals are completed.

Compliance and Reporting:

• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed following safety standards and company guidelines.
• Complete necessary documentation, logs, and checklists related to maintenance tasks and inventory tracking.
• Report any maintenance issues and concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Physical Demands: While performing duties, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

Hourly: $23-27 per hour

The hourly rate is between $23.00 and $27.00 per hour. Hourly rate will be determined on an individualized basis taking into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, and, where applicable, licenses or certifications held. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, this position may be eligible for additional types of compensation including discretionary bonuses.
