Job summary

The Planet Group in Owensboro, KY is seeking an experienced General Maintenance Technician II to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of commercial and industrial facility systems and equipment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and general facility upkeep across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, lighting, and building systems, with duties including documenting findings in CMMS, ordering parts, and coordinating vendors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade training preferred.
• 4+ years of maintenance experience or training across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or industrial/facility systems.
• Valid driver's license.
• Forklift, JLG, scissor lift, and aerial lift experience as required.
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety systems, and building systems.
• Ability to read safety rules and maintenance instructions.
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize changing requests.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial/industrial facility equipment.
• Document operating conditions and findings during rounds.
• Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life-safety, lighting, and building systems.
• Work with motors, motor starters, MCC panels/circuits, VFDs, transformers, wiring, and electrical controls.
• Maintain dock equipment including overhead doors, dock levelers, dock locks, and seals.
• Repair pumps, valves, steam traps, piping, fixtures, and related equipment.
• Perform carpentry, painting, leak repairs, and other building maintenance tasks.
• Document completed work and findings in CMMS/work order systems and recommend PM updates.
• Order parts, create POs, coordinate vendors, and participate in maintenance/project meetings.
• Provide guidance to subcontractors supporting facilities maintenance projects.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and customer staff regarding work requests, status, and completion expectations.
• Follow OSHA and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Adapt to changing priorities and provide support during unexpected equipment or facility issues.

We are seeking an experienced General Maintenance Technician II to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of commercial and industrial facility systems and equipment.

This role will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and general facility maintenance across multiple building systems. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working independently as well as part of a facilities maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial/industrial facility equipment.


• Conduct regular equipment and system rounds and document operating conditions and findings.


• Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, lighting, and building systems.


• Work with motors, motor starters, MCC panels/circuits, VFDs, transformers, wiring, and electrical controls.


• Maintain dock equipment including overhead doors, dock levelers, dock locks, and seals.


• Repair pumps, valves, steam traps, pneumatic solenoids, plumbing fixtures, piping, drains, and related equipment.


• Perform general carpentry, painting, leak/stoppage repairs, and other building maintenance tasks as needed.


• Document completed work and findings in CMMS/work order systems and recommend PM updates when appropriate.


• Order parts, create POs, coordinate vendors, and participate in maintenance/project meetings.


• Provide guidance to subcontractors supporting facilities maintenance projects.


• Communicate effectively with coworkers and customer staff regarding work requests, status, and completion expectations.


• Follow all applicable safety requirements, including OSHA and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.


• Adapt to changing priorities and provide support during unexpected equipment or facility issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or additional technical training preferred.


• 4+ years of maintenance experience and/or training involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or industrial/facility maintenance.


• Valid driver's license required.


• Forklift, JLG, scissor lift, and aerial lift operating experience/licenses as required.


• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety systems, and building systems.


• Ability to use hand tools and small/large power tools.


• Ability to disassemble and reassemble fixtures, fans, pumps, HVAC equipment, and other building equipment.


• Comfortable using computers, tablets, cell phones, email, Microsoft Word, CMMS/work-order systems, and maintenance software/building automation systems.


• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, diagrams, and operating procedures.


• Strong communication, troubleshooting, organization, and follow-through skills.


• Ability to work independently, prioritize changing work requests, and maintain high‑quality standards.


• Willingness to occasionally support non‑customary schedules or weekend work when required.
