Job summary

Carpenter Technology in the United States is seeking a Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for performing preventative and condition-based maintenance on various industrial equipment. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of relevant experience and proficiency in PLCs.

Qualifications

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Safely perform assigned tasks competently and efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in compliance with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Plan and execute shutdowns/outages.
  • Maintain up-to-date spare parts and drawings.
  • Communicate with maintenance and production groups to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Identify problem sources by observing mechanical and electrical devices, listening for issues and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove or replace defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes and hand/power tools.
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Determine dimensional changes in parts by inspecting them with calipers, micrometers and other instruments.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, precision tools and instrumentation.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop equipment.
  • Work independently to ensure plant assets operate through timely completion of preventative and condition‑based maintenance on furnaces, presses, hydraulic systems, engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machines.
  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in at least two technical skills such as welding, precision machining, mill right, instrument calibration, PLC troubleshooting, low‑, medium‑ or high‑voltage maintenance.
  • Assist with production‑related tasks as part of a crew‑based team.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the plant.
  • Support the plant with overtime when required and be willing to work a rotating shift.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate (AS) degree in Electrical, Manufacturing Controls (PLCs).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical and/or instrumentation experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens S7 PLCs.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand control logic, flow diagrams, instrument loops and control circuits.
  • Ability to pass a background check, physical examination and drug/alcohol screen.
  • Compliance with company fall protection requirements.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime, including weekends and holidays.
