Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of buildings, installed equipment, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sanitary systems.
  • Inspect equipment and building systems to identify maintenance or repair needs.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing systems, pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, electrical motors, and other installed equipment.
  • Assist with rebuilding pumps and compressors, replacing bearings and seals, and repairing or replacing plumbing and mechanical components.
  • Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, including drywall repair, painting, doors, fixtures, and basic carpentry.
  • Read gauges and meters and identify equipment or systems requiring attention.
  • Follow all applicable safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, customers, and other organizations.

Description

General Summary

The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance and repair of building systems, facilities, and installed equipment. The position requires practical knowledge of multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and basic carpentry, and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to support safe and reliable facility operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of buildings, installed equipment, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sanitary systems.
  • Inspect equipment and building systems to identify maintenance or repair needs.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled repairs as assigned.
  • Maintain and repair plumbing systems, pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, electrical motors, and other installed equipment.
  • Assist with rebuilding pumps and compressors, replacing bearings and seals, and repairing or replacing plumbing and mechanical components.
  • Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, including drywall repair, painting, doors, fixtures, and basic carpentry.
  • Assist skilled trades personnel with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, and other facility maintenance activities as needed.
  • Repair or replace piping and related components and assist with maintenance of installed irrigation systems where applicable.
  • Read gauges and meters and identify equipment or systems requiring attention.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of assigned work areas.
  • Follow all applicable safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, customers, and other organizations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on operational needs and individual qualifications.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training in a related field preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of general mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and facility maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read gauges, meters, and basic equipment information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical activities including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, standing for extended periods, and repetitive arm movements.
  • Work may involve occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, and other conditions typically associated with facility maintenance operations.
  • Must follow all applicable workplace safety requirements and use required personal protective equipment.
