Job summary

Alvest Equipment Services (AES) in North Charleston, SC is seeking Ground Support Equipment Mechanics to maintain and repair GSE including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. You will diagnose issues, perform software updates, and ensure safe operation for Dreamlifter support equipment.

Report to Station Manager and uphold safety and quality standards while interfacing with customers and internal teams. ASE certification within 6-12 months is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-4 years service repair experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial skills with PLC and HVAC experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years repairing and maintaining Mobile Heavy Equipment.
  • Diesel-powered vehicles experience preferred or equivalent education.
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
  • Familiarity with repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, HVAC, and electrical discrepancies on GSE systems, with focus on Boeing Dreamlifter Operations.
  • Inspect, repair, and overhaul components to OEM specifications.
  • Disassemble and inspect components, reassemble to OEM specs with precision.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance and document actions using Maintenance Information Systems.
  • Operate and maneuver GSE around Dreamlifter aircraft safely and efficiently.
  • Engage in continuous improvement to reduce downtime and optimize equipment performance.

POSITION SUMMARY

Ground Support Equipment Mechanics at AES will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various types of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. This role involves adhering to service bulletins, performing software updates, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for a wide range of GSE equipment. From tow tractors to aircraft refueling trucks, mechanics will ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment crucial to Boeing Dreamlifter Operations. Reporting directly to the Station Manager, mechanics will uphold the highest standards of service and professionalism while representing AES and its core principles before our valued customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Other duties may be assigned and are not limited to the following)

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, HVAC, and/or electrical discrepancies on various GSE systems and subsystems with a specialized focus on equipment utilized in Boeing Dreamlifter Operations.
  • Inspect, repair, and rebuild/overhaul components such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, HVAC, and hydraulic systems ensuring optimal functionality and safety for equipment utilized in Dreamlifter Operations.
  • Disassemble components, meticulously inspect for quality factors, and reassemble to OEM specifications with a keen eye for precision and adherence to operational requirements.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance tasks on ground support equipment, meticulously documenting all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions utilizing computer-based Maintenance Information Systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to proficiently operate and maneuver GSE around Dreamlifter aircraft safely and effectively. Ensure seamless loading and unloading operations using machinery and labor, while adhering to Boeing's safety protocols and operational standards.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies specific to Dreamlifter Operations with a focus on reducing downtime and optimizing equipment performance.
  • Strictly adhere to common aviation practices of Tool Control, FOD Prevention, Safety, and parts accountability ensuring compliance with Boeing's operational guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all environmental safety and regulatory commissions, including (but not limited to) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. Implement proper safety measures while operating equipment on-site.
  • Professionally interact and coordinate with internal departments and external customers to facilitate smooth ground support operations, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all levels.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area, toolboxes, and company vehicle(s) in alignment with Boeing's cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Actively participate in professional development and training opportunities related to GSE maintenance with a focus on acquiring specialized knowledge and skills.
  • Undertake other assignments as designated by the Station Manager and/or the Lead Technician, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of Dreamlifter Operations and the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 1-4 years of service repair experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial skills with PLC and HVAC experience. Associate degree or vocational certification/training may substitute for years of experience for entry level position.
  • Minimum 1-2 years performing repair and maintenance on Mobile Heavy Equipment and related components.
  • Experience with diesel-powered vehicles preferred or equivalent educational experience.
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair required.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to perform, corrosion control utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Familiarity with the use of repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams, and schematics (electrical and hydraulic) necessary to troubleshoot and/or repair failed components.
  • Additional skills such as automotive mechanical background or millwright experience preferred. GSE experience is a plus.
ASE Certification Requirements:

Employees are required to obtain a minimum of one (1) ASE certification within the first six (6) months of employment and a total of three (3) ASE certifications within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Average to advanced computer skills necessary with an aptitude to acquire increased skills preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas).
  • Must be able to properly lift weights exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess the hand tools necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
  • Ability to work both as a team and/or independently with great success.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • No travel restrictions.

This position will be performed on a Boeing site. As such, candidates selected for this role will be required to undergo and successfully pass Boeing's Security Background Screening process.
