Job summary

Old World Industries in New Kensington, PA seeks a Maintenance Technician to serve as a hands-on technical resource for resolving equipment problems affecting production. You will diagnose tooling and machine issues, identify corrective actions, procure parts, and perform repairs, reporting to the shift Supervisor.

  • Demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
  • Understand written instructions and complete appropriate documentation as directed.

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements on production machines.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, etc.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Position Purpose:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for serving as a hands-on technical resource for resolving equipment problems affecting production and assisting with diagnosing production problems. The individual in this position is responsible for identifying and resolving tooling and machine related issues, identifying corrective actions, procuring replacement parts, and performing equipment repairs. This role will report into the Supervisor in charge of that shift.

Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements on production machines.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, etc.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares maintenance reports.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2+ years of related work experience, or a technical degree related to maintenance or other related field, or any satisfactory combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties.
  • Demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
  • Accurately multiply, divide, add, and subtract whole numbers to resolve practical problems.
  • Operate a computer—PC proficiency; use spreadsheets and reporting software effectively.
  • Wear/use required PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Understand written instructions and complete appropriate documentation as directed.
  • Use a logical approach to troubleshooting issues and prioritizing production needs.
  • Recognize problems when they occur and work toward the solution of those problems.
  • Pay attention to details and pursue quality in accomplishing work duties and tasks. Look for opportunities to reduce costs or increase productivity without reducing effectiveness.
  • Handle challenges skillfully, thoroughly, and effectively.

Climbing, ascending and descending ladders, stairs and/or ramps.

Fingering, picking, typing and/or working primarily with fingers.

Talking and expressing ideas verbally to convey detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing and perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction, together with the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

Level of Physical Exertion

Sedentary tasks. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The position involves frequent sitting, with occasional walking and standing.

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. The position involves frequent walking and standing.

Heavy work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently. The position involves frequent walking and standing.

Visual Acuity Requirements

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: inspecting visual defects; inspecting small parts or the operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembling parts at distances close to the eyes.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

Work Conditions

The worker is subject to environmental conditions with no protection from weather.

The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time.

The worker is subject to noise which may require the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

The worker is subject to hazards and will work in close proximity to mechanical parts, moving vehicles and/or chemicals.

The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
