Job description

If you're the person people call when something needs to be fixed—and you take pride in figuring out how to get it done right—GVTC wants to hear from you.

We're looking for a hands-on Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Technician to help keep our buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment safe, functional, and well maintained.

This isn't a role where you'll do the same thing every day. One day may involve repairing equipment or completing vehicle maintenance, while another could have you working on plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, or a facility project.

We're looking for someone who knows their way around tools, can troubleshoot problems independently, and takes pride in the quality of their work.

What You'll Do

Full-Time | On-Site | New Braunfels, TX

As part of GVTC's facilities team, you'll help maintain the physical infrastructure and equipment that keeps our organization running.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform routine repairs and general maintenance throughout GVTC facilities
  • Complete preventive maintenance on buildings, machinery, vehicles, and equipment
  • Inspect company vehicles and equipment and identify maintenance or repair needs
  • Diagnose problems and complete repairs in the shop or field
  • Perform general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, painting, machine repair, and related maintenance work
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, instructions, and manufacturer specifications
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for assigned projects
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance and service records
  • Identify and report defective equipment, materials, or unsafe conditions
  • Work alongside outside contractors and vendors on facility projects when needed
  • Purchase project-specific materials and equipment while helping manage costs
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Follow GVTC safety practices and procedures at all times
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a dependable, resourceful problem-solver who is comfortable working independently but also knows how to collaborate with a team.

You may be a great fit if you have:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Approximately 3 years of experience in facilities, building, equipment, automotive, industrial, or general maintenance preferred
  • Hands‑on experience with multiple trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, or equipment repair
  • General knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Experience inspecting, maintaining, or repairing vehicles and equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience safely operating common hand and power tools
  • The ability to read technical instructions, equipment manuals, drawings, and specifications
  • Good judgment and the ability to determine the best approach to completing a repair
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance records and related responsibilities
  • The flexibility to work varying shifts when needed

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, notices when something isn't right, and is willing to figure out how to fix it.

What the Work Looks Like

This is an active, hands‑on position— not a desk job.

You'll work across GVTC facilities, shops, outdoor areas, and field locations. The position may involve exposure to outdoor weather, dust, oil, fumes, odors, and normal shop noise.

The role also requires the ability to:

  • Work while standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, sitting, or reaching overhead for extended periods
  • Lift, push, and pull materials and equipment required to complete assigned work
  • Frequently lift up to 60 pounds
  • Travel to GVTC locations or field sites as needed

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Why Join GVTC?

For more than 75 years, GVTC has served communities throughout the Texas Hill Country. Behind the technology and services we provide is a team of people who keep our facilities, vehicles, and equipment operating safely and reliably every day.

This position is an opportunity to bring your skills to an established local organization while working on a wide variety of projects and continuing to develop your expertise.

Benefits include:
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Employee discounts
  • Referral program
  • Flexible spending account
Ready to Put Your Skills to Work?

If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in keeping facilities and equipment running the way they should, we'd like to meet you.
