Job summary

Bauer Welding & Metal Fabricators Inc is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for our 60,000 sq ft Mounds View facility. You will repair and maintain CNC and manual fabrication equipment to optimize uptime, productivity, and safety.

Key duties include troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems, performing preventive maintenance, and coordinating with production teams. Strong PLC/automation experience and reading schematics are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in manufacturing equipment maintenance.
• Completed electrical/electronics technical training (certificate or equivalent).
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing PLCs and automation systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and electrical prints, schematics, and control diagrams.
• Knowledge of CNC equipment (lasers, brakes, benders, mills).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair CNC tube benders, mills, lasers, 6-axis welders, and other fabrication equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Communicate repair timelines with team leads and supervisors.
• Implement and maintain safety protocols: LOTO, PPE, chemical handling.
• Maintain hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC-based controls.
• Document maintenance activity in logs and software.
• Coordinate with production/engineering and outside vendors as needed.
• Oversee forklift and crane maintenance and environmental/disposal tasks.

Purpose and Description:Bauer Welding & Metal Fabricators is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support the daily operations of our 60,000 sq ft production facility in Mounds View. This position is responsible for efficiently repairing and maintaining a wide variety of CNC and manual fabrication equipment to optimize uptime, productivity, and safety.Key Responsibilities:Primary DutiesPerform mechanical and electrical/electronic troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of fabrication equipment including:- CNC tube benders, mills, lasers, 6-axis robotic welders- Manual mills and tube benders- Punch presses, brake presses, drill presses- End formers, saws, and cutoff machinesConduct scheduled preventive maintenance to reduce downtimeCommunicate repair timelines, updates, and completions clearly with team leads and supervisorsImplement and maintain safety protocols: LOTO, chemical storage/disposal, fire extinguisher checks, and emergency lightingMaintain and troubleshoot systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC-based controlsRespond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritize tasks based on production needsCoordinate with production and engineering teams to ensure efficient equipment operationDocument all maintenance activity in logs and maintenance softwareAdhere to safety policies, including lockout/tagout, chemical handling, and PPE compliance1st Shift 4 - 10'sAdditional DutiesOrder repair parts and coordinate external service or specialty toolsMaintain repair and inspection records, logs, and purchase ordersPerform building and facility maintenance, including HVAC, electric boiler/heat pump systems, cooling towers, rooftop fans, air exchangers, runoff systemsOversee forklift and crane maintenance with outside vendorsCoordinate hazardous waste disposal in compliance with environmental regulationsParticipate in other assigned duties aligned with core values: Taking Ownership, Striving for Greatness, Showing Our Customers We CareQualifications & Skills Required:5+ years of experience in manufacturing equipment maintenanceCompleted electrical/electronics technical training (certificate or equivalent)Experience troubleshooting and repairing PLCs and automation systemsAbility to read mechanical and electrical prints, schematics, and control diagramsKnowledge of CNC equipment (lasers, brakes, benders, mills)Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skillsFamiliarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systemsExperience with welding equipment maintenanceBasic fabrication skills, including the ability to modify or fabricate parts when neededEffective communication skills for working with all levels of staff and vendorsFlexibility and prioritization skills in a multi-machine environmentBasic to intermediate computer skillsPreferred: MN Boiler License, Previous experience in a precision fabrication shop, Familiarity with ISO 9001 standardsPhysical RequirementsLift and carry up to 50 lbs regularlyWork in standing, kneeling, and overhead positionsExposure to noise, oils, solvents, and moving machineryIndoor shop environment with seasonal temperature controls
