Job summary

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Summary: Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery, electrical and electronic parts / systems, PLC’s, motors, pumps, controls, pneumatic parts / systems, hydraulic parts / systems, mechanical parts / systems, and other components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
• Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
• Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
• Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, to diagnose malfunction. (RCA)
• Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, and positions sensing devices.
• Diagnoses & repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
• Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
• Able to read and study blueprints, drawings, sketches, etc., to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, system requirements, and repair / setup needs. Must be able to verify conformance of finished work to specifications.
• Plans layout and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
• Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
• Identifies and replaces malfunctioning PLC's.
• Assist in all equipment installations & major modifications.
• Comply with all safe work procedures required in any situation, and ask when not certain which procedure to follow.
• Able to work 8-hour shifts, on day or night shift and work mandatory overtime.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Trained in lock-out / tag-out, and forklift / scissor lift, with forklift certification/license. Hazwoper preferred but not required. Must be familiar with typical light industrial safety applications, such as PPE, special protective gear, fall protection, etc.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving few variables in standardized situations.

Education/Experience:

• More than 5 years of successful maintenance technician experience in an industrial setting, working with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and electrical equipment, machinery, and components.
• Associates degree or equivalent from college or technical school preferred but not required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Certifications, and formal training showing progression, and ability to learn new / updated skills.
• PLC troubleshooting and interface experience needed.
• Experience logging tasks into a maintenance control system with basic computer skills.
• Experience communicating professionally with internal customers.
• MIG, TIG, stick welding ability preferred but not required.
• Machine tool (lathe, press, milling, grinding, etc.) experience preferred but not required.
• Willingness to perform wide array of tasks from complex machinery work to rudimentary building maintenance.
