Job summary

Western Diversified Plastics in Mattawan, MI is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for the second shift. You will maintain and troubleshoot injection molding machines, loading systems, and related equipment in a fast-paced automotive plastics facility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 7+ years experience in machinery maintenance.
• Experience in an injection molding facility (required).
• Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment (preferred).
• Demonstrated training in electrical safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on injection molding machines, material loading systems, and robots.
• Maintain and troubleshoot auxiliary equipment such as grinders, temperature control units, dryers, conveyors, air compressors, chillers, and cooling towers.
• Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs) on machines and equipment as required.
• Train and develop Preventative Maintenance Mechanics and Machine Mechanics.
• Complete paperwork and documentation related to maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with Superintendents and Plant Management to schedule machine repairs efficiently.
• Take on additional duties as assigned by management.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on injection molding machines, material loading systems, and traversing robots/sprue pickers.
• Maintain and troubleshoot auxiliary equipment such as grinders, temperature control units, dryers, conveyors, air compressors, chillers, and cooling towers.
• Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs) on machines and equipment as required.
• Train and develop Preventative Maintenance Mechanics and Machine Mechanics.
• Complete paperwork and documentation related to maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with Superintendents and Plant Management to schedule machine repairs efficiently.
• Take on additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications: Required Knowledge & Skills

• Strong mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
• Experience reading electrical and hydraulic prints.
• Proficiency with tools, including hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of welding, turning, milling, and grinding.
• Basic math skills and the ability to work with different units of measurement (inches, millimeters, gallons, liters).
• Physical readiness to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and handle demanding tasks.
• A willingness to learn and adapt to new skills and equipment.
• A team-oriented mindset, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.

Education and Experience Requirements

• A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• 7+ years of experience in machinery maintenance.
• Demonstrated training in electrical safety.
• Experience working in an injection molding facility (required).
• Experience in a fast-paced, automotive manufacturing environment (preferred).
