JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment used in the production of automotive fasteners. This role supports preventive maintenance activities and equipment repairs under the guidance of senior technicians and team leaders.
The position is designed to build foundational machinery repair skills while supporting plant uptime, safety compliance, and automotive quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Preventive Maintenance Support
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on production equipment.
- Lubricate, clean, inspect, and replace basic wear components.
- Assist in maintaining:
- Cold heading machines
- Thread rolling equipment
- Heat treat furnaces
- Parts wash
- Automated sorting and inspection machines
- Document completed work orders accurately.
Equipment Troubleshooting & Repair
- Assist senior technicians with breakdown diagnostics and repairs.
- Use basic troubleshooting tools (multimeter, hand tools, power tools).
- Follow direction during emergency downtime situations.
- Perform minor building maintenance, including problems with heating and plumbing.
- Light fabrication as needed.
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions, engineering specifications, sketches, operation manuals, and diagrams to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with supervision.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all plant safety rules and procedures.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout requirements.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Support compliance with automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949.
- Follow environmental procedures aligned with ISO 14001, where applicable.
Documentation & Housekeeping
- Accurately complete maintenance work orders.
- Report equipment abnormalities to Team Leader or Supervisor.
- Maintain clean and organized maintenance areas.
- Support 5S initiatives.
Skill Development
- Participate in technical training and cross-training.
- Learn to read mechanical prints and electrical schematics.
- Develop troubleshooting capability in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Progress toward independent equipment troubleshooting.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Movement of equipment, both internal and external
- Removal of defective components using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools
- Assist in safety and housekeeping repairs
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Technical certification preferred (Industial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology)
- Experience in an industrial maintenance or manufacturing environment is highly desirable
- Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach - lifting requirement of up to 40 pounds
- Hi-Lo, manlift, and crane license is required
- Strong willingness to learn with good attitude and attendance mindset
- Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of electrical safety
