Job summary

Kenosha County is seeking a Maintenance Technician for first shift to keep campuses clean and well maintained. The role may be assigned to any county campus and occasionally requires on-call readiness. The full-time position entails a 5-day schedule with potential for non-traditional hours during weather conditions.

Required: High school diploma or GED and 3 years of custodial/maintenance experience; valid driver’s license; Wisconsin Low-Pressure Boiler Operator license within one year.

Qualifications

  • Three years of custodial and equipment maintenance work.
  • Facility maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs status checks of boilers and air conditioning units.
  • Cleans restrooms and floors.
  • Removes snow on designated campus.
  • Assembles and repairs office furniture.
  • Cuts keys and changes lock cores.
  • Repairs sinks, showers, and toilets.
  • Replaces light bulbs and ballasts.
  • Changes filters, belts, and grease motors.
  • Cleans air conditioning coils.
  • Inspects generators and elevators.
  • Assists with supervision of custodial staff.
  • Fills in for Maintenance Manager as required.
  • May be on call 24/7 for emergencies.

Maintenance Technician

Are you mechanically inclined and enjoy working on small projects? Do you appreciate neat and clean buildings and grounds? Kenosha County is in search of someone like you!

We are looking for a first shift Maintenance Technician to help keep Kenosha County campuses clean and well maintained. This position may be assigned to work at any of the Kenosha County campuses.

2026 Hiring Range: $23.90 – $27.15 per hour

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Hours for first shift are generally Monday through Friday. Non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays, may be needed for weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs status checks of boilers and air conditioning units
  • Cleans restrooms and floors
  • Removes snow on designated campus
  • Assembles and repairs office furniture
  • Cuts keys and changes lock cores
  • Repairs sinks, showers, and toilets
  • Replaces light bulbs and ballasts
  • Changes filters, belts, and grease motors
  • Cleans air conditioning coils
  • Inspects generators and elevators
  • Assists with supervision of custodial staff
  • Fills in for Maintenance Manager as required

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
Success Factors
  • Knowledge of Schneider and Trane BAS and door security software
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting
  • Knowledge of Akita Box Facilities Maintenance software system
  • Knowledge of Best Lock Systems – cutting keys and creating cores
  • Knowledge of plow/salt truck operation, along with skid steers
  • Skill in Microsoft Office Outlook (e-mail and calendar functions), Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work in tight areas and awkward positions, including on a ladder
  • Ability to work outdoors during inclement weather
  • Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times
  • Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment
Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of custodial and equipment maintenance work
Licenses or Certifications
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency, with acceptable driving record
  • Must possess a third-class Low-Pressure Boiler Operator License in Wisconsin, or be able to obtain within one year
