Job summary

Torrey Holistics is seeking a maintenance helper to assist the Maintenance department with routine repairs, installations, and equipment replacement in a manufacturing setting. Under supervision, you will inspect machinery, dismantle faulty units, lubricate parts, and perform light carpentry, painting, and plumbing tasks as needed.

The role requires basic reading of manuals and blueprints, basic measurement skills, and the ability to use hand tools and power tools.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform routine maintenance.
  • Ability to read safety rules and maintenance manuals.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect machinery and equipment.
  • Dismantle defective machines and install parts.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Operate cutting torch or welding equipment as needed.
  • Assist with carpentry, painting, and light plumbing.

Summary:Assist the Maintenance department with routine repairs, installations, construction and replacement of equipment. Perform simple facility maintenance duties under supervision.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities: **Not limited to but including the following:Visually inspect and test machinery and equipmentDismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired partsCleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machineryMove furniture & perform light janitorial tasksRemove, move or process scrap material in scrap areaWork under the direction of Maintenance LeaderAssist other Maintenance employees & departments with projectsDocument status of repairs to machinery and equipmentPerform minor repairs to equipment to include gauges, motors, valves, pressure regulators, on hydraulic and pneumatic equipmentOperate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal partsPerform preventative maintenance on equipmentPerform facilities maintenance duties to include simple carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, under supervisionEnsure that maintenance shop tools and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Secure necessary protective devices and observe work to ensure that safety practices are followed according to OSHA standardsRemove snow from walkways and fire exits in winter monthsRemove ice buildup from buildings, walkways and fire exitsProperly store Maintenance parts and supplies when received from the shipping departmentAssist shipping department in readying machinery for shipmentQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to interpret bar graphs.Reasoning Ability:Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Computer Skills:None requiredCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must possess or be able to obtain a fork truck and scissor lift licenseClean driving record (operate company vehicles)Ability to successfully complete Lock Out / Tag Out TrainingOther Skills and Abilities:Previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is desired.Must have a solid understanding of mechanical systems with minimal formal education or training.Must be able to use power tools including but not limited to drills, wrenches, saws and various hand tools.Must be able to use general metal working tools including but not limited to lathes, mills, brakes, grinders and drill presses.Must be able to use precision measuring instruments.Must be able to perform multiple job assignments simultaneously.Must be able and willing to work independently and as a member of the team.Must have ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)Must have basic understanding of technical drawings / blueprint reading.Must have basic problem solving skills.Must have basic knowledge of OSHA standards, and be able to apply to maintenance duties when directed.Other Qualifications:Minimal travel required (less than 5% of time)Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
