University of Maryland Medical System in Glen Burnie, MD is seeking a maintenance mechanic to perform trade-level work in preventative maintenance, electricity, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs under moderate supervision.
Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with shop, math, mechanical drawing, and maintenance courses; four years of maintenance experience may substitute education; a Maryland driver’s license is required, and healthcare facility experience is preferred.
General Summary Under moderate supervision, performs trade level mechanic work in the areas of preventative maintenance, electricity, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs.

Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. Moderate supervision needed. Follows general instructions and directions, plans own time to a degree to meet pre-determined schedules, work is subject to moderately direct supervision.
High School diploma with courses in shop, math, mechanical drawing, maintenance or related areas is required. Four (4) years of maintenance experience may be considered in lieu of education. Maintenance mechanic in a health care or institutional facility preferred. A current and valid Maryland driver’s license is required.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous material requires the observance of standard precautions, and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 100 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
