MELDS LLC is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support the reliability and performance of our extrusion and ancillary equipment. You will maximize uptime, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, and contribute to facility improvements in a fast-paced plastics environment.

Ideal candidates bring strong electrical/mechanical skills, factory floor problem solving, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. This role is on 2nd shift with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years industrial maintenance experience; plastics manufacturing or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, sensors, controls, and industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair extrusion lines and other production equipment.
  • Identify and resolve issues with electrical systems including motors, sensors, controls.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical systems such as gearboxes, bearings, and drive systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize reliability and lifespan of equipment.
  • Respond quickly to equipment failures to restore production operations.
  • Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new extrusion lines and automation systems.

About the role

MELDS LLC is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support the reliability and performance of our manufacturing equipment and production systems. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing extrusion and auxiliary equipment to maximize uptime, minimize downtime, and improve overall plant efficiency.

The ideal candidate is mechanically and electrically skilled, responds effectively to production challenges, and takes ownership of equipment performance. This position plays a critical role in supporting production goals, facility improvements, and long‑term operational success.

What you'll do
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair extrusion lines, pelletizers, conveyors, grinders, and other supporting production equipment.
  • Identify and resolve issues involving electrical systems, including motors, sensors, controls, and related components.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical systems, including gearboxes, bearings, shafts, and drive systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot heating systems, including barrel heaters, thermocouples, and temperature control zones.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on production equipment to maximize reliability and equipment lifespan.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to equipment failures and downtime events to restore production operations.
  • Work closely with production personnel to identify root causes and implement long‑term corrective actions.
  • Support the installation, startup, and commissioning of new extrusion lines, automation systems, and facility equipment.
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, and preventive maintenance logs.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
  • Collaborate effectively with production supervisors, operators, and management to support plant performance goals.
Qualifications
  • 3 or more years of industrial maintenance experience required; plastics manufacturing or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, sensors, controls, and industrial equipment.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends when required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with plastics extrusion equipment and recycling operations.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and basic PLC troubleshooting.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing systems.
  • Knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance best practices.
Schedule
  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Schedule may vary based on production needs.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
