The Cathedral in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking a qualified Groundskeeper to perform general maintenance duties on parish grounds. This is a part-time position.

Ministerial Character

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. To fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in specific ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in his ministry and engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities

The following outlines the primary functions of the job and is not an exhaustive list of all work requirements:

  • Support and uphold the philosophy of the Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Participate in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities to grow in ministry.
  • Perform minor repairs including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work.
  • Inspect all buildings for minor repairs, report major repairs to the Pastor and Pastoral Assistant, and contact vendors upon approval.
  • Perform preventative maintenance: inspect all AC units for cooling and heating, check filters and coils.
  • Communicate major issues requiring further attention to the Pastor and Pastoral Assistant.
  • Work effectively in various conditions (indoors and outdoors).
  • Be available to work on call and collaborate with volunteers and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • At least one year of maintenance experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in various conditions and lift 10 pounds or more.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, push, pull, and perform other physical tasks.
  • Reliable transportation.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening including background check, MVR, and drug screening.
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources.
  • Adherence to all Diocesan policies and procedures.
