Job description

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician I to join our facilities and manufacturing team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this entry-level role, you will help maintain production equipment, support preventative maintenance activities, and contribute to keeping our manufacturing environment safe, clean, and operating efficiently. Your tasks will include supporting the Maintenance team with production needs, preventative maintenance, facilities support, and special projects. You will perform hands‑on tasks such as filling liquid nitrogen transfer dewars and flasks, cleaning vacuum pump traps, removing ice from nitrogen flasks, cleaning and servicing CNC coolant tanks, changing HVAC and air filters, maintaining CNC mist collectors, and assisting with cooling tower and A/C coil cleanings. You will also perform process cooling water filter changes, maintain maintenance records, monitor inventory, and coordinate planned maintenance activities with production managers to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations. Maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas will be an important part of the role.

We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma or GED and at least six months of maintenance experience. Manufacturing experience is a plus, and strong mechanical aptitude is highly preferred. You should be comfortable reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and training documents. The ideal candidate will have technical and mechanical abilities, strong communication skills, initiative, and a results‑driven approach to completing work. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations related to machinery and manufacturing environments is a plus.

Pay Range: $ 22.00-36/hr. (DOE)

Main Responsibilities Include The Following
  • Support Maintenance with daily production needs
  • Fill liquid nitrogen transfer dewars
  • Fill liquid nitrogen flasks
  • Clean vacuum pump traps
  • Empty ice from nitrogen flasks
  • Support preventative maintenance activities
  • Empty, clean, and fill CNC coolant tanks
  • Change HVAC return air filters
  • Assist with A/C coil cleanings
  • Change air filtration filters
  • Change CNC mist collector filters and clean old filters and reservoir tanks
  • Assist with cooling tower cleanings
  • Support Maintenance with special projects
  • Support Facilities Maintenance during PTO coverage
  • Maintain records relating to planned and completed maintenance
  • Coordinate with production managers to schedule planned maintenance with minimal disruption to production
  • Clean machines, tooling, and parts and perform maintenance as required
  • Monitor and record inventory usage, including tooling, supplies, and raw materials
  • Notify appropriate personnel when supplies or materials need replenishment
  • Perform process cooling water filter changes
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and safety practices
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers for detailed maintenance tasks. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and communicate verbally. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing environment and regularly works around moving mechanical parts, production equipment, machinery, tools, and maintenance systems. Employees may occasionally be exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, electrical hazards, vibration, and moderately loud noise. Mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. Employees are expected to follow all Bluefors safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace at all times.
