Overview
Join us as a Maintenance Technician at our North Dakota Soybean Processing Plant. This role is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and inspection of all processing equipment and performing installation projects. The position may also involve highly skilled maintenance tasks such as fabrication, welding, cutting, blueprint reading, carpentry, and basic repairs.
Responsibilities
- Participate in company Safety, Food Safety, and Quality programs and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space and Hot Permit procedures, and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance per manufacturer recommendations and company policies.
- Carry out basic equipment upkeep, repairs, and rebuild spare equipment.
- Monitor equipment to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot reported or discovered issues to prevent downtime.
- Perform installation projects, including setting up and disassembling oil barge loading hoses, and perform daily repairs as needed.
- Maintain required inventory, ensuring parts and supplies are available.
- Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly (checklists, electronic PM records, repair notes, repair estimates, purchase orders).
- Contain oil spills and recover spilled oil when necessary.
- Maintain general housekeeping and clean‑up of all work areas.
- Be on‑call for weekends, nights, and holidays for emergency repairs.
- Perform highly skilled maintenance tasks (electrical, fabrication, welding, cutting, carpentry) as required and assist in any plant area when urgent issues arise.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: None required; preferred previous maintenance experience.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance, machine and tool knowledge, design, repair, and maintenance.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to accept and follow directions, work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to apply common sense and logical thought processes to interpret oral and written communications and recommend alternative solutions to mechanical problems.
- Ability to read blueprints and troubleshoot equipment.
Physical Demands & Requirements
- Perform heavy lifting up to 50 lbs daily, up to 100 lbs occasionally, and request assistance for anything over 100 lbs.
- Climb ladders or stairs repeatedly to significant elevation (at least 30 ft, up to 120 ft).
- Manual dexterity for grasping, manipulating, and assembling small objects.
- Walk safely on barge surfaces and railcar tops.
- Work in confined spaces and around deep water; swim capability required.
- Use a 300‑lb rated ladder regularly.
- Constantly grasp and reach tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication, including two‑way radio.
- Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Work scheduled shifts, including rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.
- Operate in high dust environments and use personal protective equipment.
- Meet applicable PPE, PFT, and fit testing requirements.
Compensation
Expected base pay range: $29.07 – $37.73 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary based on location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
