Job description

License Requirement: Minnesota 2B Boiler License or higher


Pay:


  • $40–$46 per hour, depending on experience

  • $5,000 signing bonus paid after 6 weeks of employment. No repayment required if you remain employed for 6 months.

  • Additional $5,000 retention bonus paid at 52 weeks of employment, provided you remain employed for the full year.


Job Summary

A food manufacturing facility in the Burnsville area is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join a five-person maintenance team supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation.


The facility produces food powders using spray drying and roll drying equipment and includes production equipment, a high-pressure boiler, wastewater treatment systems, and other facility support systems.


Working with limited supervision, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on production equipment and facility systems. The goal is to minimize downtime while maintaining high standards for safety, food safety, quality, and productivity.


Schedule & Compensation


  • Day Shift: 5:30 AM – 6:00 PM (One open position on day shift)

  • Night Shift: 5:30 PM – 6:00 AM (One open position on night shift)

  • 3-2 rotating schedule on a two-week cycle

  • Full-time position

Responsibilities

Safety, Quality & Food Safety


  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety, quality, and food safety policies and procedures.

  • Monitor the high-pressure boiler for safe and efficient operation of the manufacturing process.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with GMP and housekeeping standards.


Preventive & Scheduled Maintenance


  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment throughout the facility to promote reliable and efficient operation.

  • Complete scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance work according to established schedules.

  • Prepare equipment for use, perform operational checks, inspect equipment, and complete routine repairs and major overhauls with limited supervision.

  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other machinery components.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues down to the component or board level when applicable.

  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and piping schematics and diagrams.

  • Rebuild and maintain equipment including motors, pumps, agitators, piping, valves, and other process equipment.

  • Dismantle defective equipment and install new or repaired components.

  • Install and repair electrical and electronic components used in machinery and equipment.

  • Operate machine tools such as grinders and drills to repair or fabricate machine parts, fixtures, and tools.

  • Perform welding on mild and stainless steel.

  • Verify that completed repairs are effective and do not contribute to continued equipment downtime.


Equipment Reliability


  • Identify potential equipment issues before they result in downtime through observation, communication, and proactive problem‑solving.

  • Demonstrate proper operation of designated equipment.

  • Assist with on-the-job training and explain maintenance procedures and equipment operation to other employees.


Documentation & Parts


  • Accurately document completed maintenance work, preventive maintenance, work orders, parts requisitions, inventory activity, and other required records.

  • Request and withdraw parts from inventory and replace defective or worn components.

  • Make necessary adjustments to ensure proper equipment operation.

  • Follow applicable maintenance practices, company policies, and building codes.


Facility & Grounds


  • Repair and maintain the physical structure and support systems of the facility.

  • Maintain facility grounds in accordance with applicable company, city, state, and federal requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.


Requirements & Qualifications


  • Minnesota 2B Boiler License or higher required.

  • 10+ years of related maintenance experience or equivalent training in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong electro‑mechanical background, including couplings, shaft alignment, bearings, gears, and lubrication.

  • Ability to read and work from technical documents, drawings, and schematics.

  • Working knowledge of digital electronics, AC/DC motors, servo motors, and drives.

  • Experience working with PLCs and automated processing systems, including troubleshooting and making program edits.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to apply critical thinking to complex problems.

  • Ability to accurately complete written documentation and electronic work orders.

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn maintenance management systems.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to the maintenance team.

  • Willingness to work weekends and rotating shifts as required by the schedule.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical examination, and background check.


Preferred Qualifications


  • 8+ years of experience in a heavy mechanical or electrical manufacturing environment.

  • PLC programming experience beyond troubleshooting and basic edits, including program design and repair.

  • Knowledge of TPM or other continuous improvement methodologies.
