Job summary

Wentworth James Group in Buffalo, NY is seeking a mechanically biased Maintenance Technician to service and maintain industrial machinery and production equipment.

You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical failures, and support upgrades while following safety and LOTO procedures.

Collaborating with Production, Engineering and Operations teams, you will help improve reliability and efficiency across the plant.

Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance experience in industrial manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Basic electrical fault finding and motor/sensor knowledge.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and manuals.
• Experience with LOTO and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance on industrial equipment.

• Maintain gearboxes, bearings, motors, pumps, conveyors, and drive systems.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

• Complete maintenance records and PM documentation.
• Support continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve performance.
• Adhere to safety procedures including LOTO.

Wentworth James Group is recruiting for a Mechanically Biased Maintenance Technician opportunity within an industrial manufacturing environment in Buffalo, New York.

This is a hands‑on maintenance position focused on the mechanical repair, servicing and reliability of industrial machinery and production equipment.

The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, with additional electrical maintenance knowledge, and will be responsible for minimizing equipment downtime, improving machinery performance and supporting preventative maintenance programs.

The role:

• Perform preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance on industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
• Maintain and repair gearboxes, bearings, motors, pumps, conveyors, shafts and mechanical drive systems.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves and associated components.
• Carry out mechanical fitting, component replacements, alignments and equipment adjustments.
• Inspect and maintain machinery to identify potential failures before breakdowns occur.
• Support basic electrical fault finding involving motors, sensors, switches and control circuits.
• Assist with machinery installations, equipment upgrades and commissioning activities.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical manuals and basic electrical schematics.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on recurring equipment failures.
• Work closely with Production, Engineering and Operations teams to improve machinery reliability and efficiency.
• Complete maintenance records, work orders and preventative maintenance documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and improving equipment performance.
• Maintain compliance with workplace safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Previous industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing or machinery environment.
• Strong mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
• Hands‑on experience maintaining industrial machinery and production equipment.
• Good understanding of mechanical drive systems, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors and rotating equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and technical documentation.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge involving motors, sensors and industrial control systems.
• Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance.
• Ability to identify equipment failures and implement effective repairs.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to machinery reliability.
• Understanding of industrial safety procedures and LOTO requirements.
