Job summary

The ideal candidate will have expertise in PLCs, industrial electricity, hydraulics, and robotics, and will use CMMS to manage maintenance tasks while ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. Team collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of industrial electricity including single-phase and three-phase power, motor controls, servo controls, emergency control systems, and process automation.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and System Control Software such as Allen-Bradley RSLogix 5000 and Omron Sysmac.
  • Must have knowledge of fluid power - Hydraulics and Pneumatics.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems using PLC software.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment.
  • Use CMMS to log work orders and track parts usage.
  • Operate powered industrial vehicles safely per program guidelines.
  • Document actions and communicate needs to maintenance team.

Job description

McLaughlin Body Company, Inc. is seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician with strong experience in the maintenance field for the Anderson SC facility. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining machinery, troubleshooting automation, doing preventative maintenance, and other tasks assigned by the maintenance manager in a timely and safe manner.

Tasks
  • Must be able to utilize PLC software to troubleshoot and diagnose problems as needed.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs - ie. shift carryovers, startup, shutdown, etc.
  • Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks and repairs to all equipment.
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to input corrective maintenance work orders, review/close preventative maintenance work orders, and charge out parts consumed per work order.
  • Must be certified to operate the required powered industrial vehicle within the guidelines of the McLaughlin Body Powered Industrial Vehicle Program - i.e. scissor lift, boom lift, forklift, etc.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Must wear and maintain the required protective clothing and equipment including safety glasses, steel toe safety shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Attend training workshops as needed per business need.
  • Must be able to work well in teams.
Qualifications
  • Must have knowledge of industrial electricity including single-phase and three-phase power, motor controls, servo controls, emergency control systems, and process automation.

  • Equipment Selection - Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the required job - i.e. hand tools, power tools, etc.
Additional Qualifications Below Is a Plus
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems - i.e. power & free, roller, etc.
  • Knowledge of robotics - Fanuc.
  • Knowledge of E-Coat and Powder Coat process.
  • Knowledge of conduit bending, wire-sizing, and load calculations.

  • Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be capable of occasional horizontal lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be capable of frequent horizontal lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be capable of occasional floor to waist lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of occasional waist to crown lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willing and able to climb to make repairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willing and able to perform tasks which include repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift. Work schedule may be over 8 hours a day.
  • Must be capable of pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds.
  • May be required to kneel, bend, crouch, forward bend stand in order to complete job assignment.
  • Must be able to work overhead.
  • Must be able to work during hot or cold temperatures. Summertime temperatures can reach or exceed 100 degrees.
Experience and Education
  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) and 5+ years of experience.
  • Mechatronics degree required.
