Job summary

Arc of Anchorage is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of its main facility, residences, and agency properties. You will handle plumbing, heating, electrical systems, appliances, and building systems, ensuring safe, reliable operations.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of contracting or construction experience preferred.
• Two years of building maintenance experience or technical school preferred.
• Experience coordinating vehicle or equipment maintenance, fleet operations, or similar responsibilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to maintenance requests for all Arc facilities in a professional and timely manner and follow requests through completion.
• Perform and coordinate repairs involving plumbing, heating, electrical systems, carpentry, appliances, and other building systems.
• Maintain an active inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies required for maintenance operations.
• Maintain and respond to agency building alarm systems as assigned.
• Oversee day-to-day fleet maintenance activities for agency vehicles under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Maintain accurate fleet records, including maintenance and repair history, vehicle tracking information, inspections, registrations, and other required documentation.
• Work professionally and respectfully in residential and program environments serving individuals who experience IDD and behavioral health needs.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and respect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of individuals receiving services.
• Participate in the Facilities on-call rotation and respond to urgent facility, maintenance, alarm/security, or vehicle-related issues outside normal business hours.
• On-call responsibilities may require responding to telephone calls and/or reporting to an agency location during evenings, overnight hours, weekends, or holidays.
• Performs other maintenance, fleet, and facilities-related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Summary of Job Functions:

The Maintenance & Fleet Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of The Arc of Anchorage’s main facility, community residences, and other agency properties. The position performs and coordinates maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, heating, electrical systems, appliances, and other building systems.

The Maintenance & Fleet Technician also plays a key role in the day-to-day management of the agency’s vehicle fleet, including scheduling and coordinating routine and preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, seasonal services, and vehicle availability. The position communicates with departments and outside vendors and follows up to ensure required maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner.

The Arc provides services to individuals who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and behavioral health needs. This position regularly works in homes, facilities, and other environments where individuals receiving services live, work, or participate in programs. The Maintenance & Fleet Technician must work respectfully and professionally in these environments and recognize that maintenance activities may occur while services are being provided.

This position participates in the Facilities on-call rotation and must be available to respond to urgent maintenance, facility, security/alarm, and vehicle-related issues outside normal business hours, including evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

• Ability to operate maintenance and repair tools and equipment safely.
• Ability to safely operate agency vehicles, including vans and box trucks.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other systems used for maintenance and fleet tracking.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Ability to respond appropriately to urgent situations and independently assess when additional assistance or escalation to the Maintenance Supervisor is required.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of contracting or construction experience preferred.
• Two years of building maintenance experience or technical school preferred.
• Experience coordinating vehicle or equipment maintenance, fleet operations, or similar responsibilities preferred.

Clearances:

• Must successfully complete and maintain eligibility under the State of Alaska Background Check Program (BCU), as required for the position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Alaska driver's license.
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record that meets agency and insurance requirements.
• Must meet agency requirements for operating company vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move about agency facilities, residences, grounds, and other work locations.
• Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical demands are greater than those associated with light work and may include bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, and working in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
• Ability to see within normal parameters.
• Ability to hear within normal range.
