Job summary

East Gate Kids is seeking a dependable Maintenance Technician / Handyman to maintain a welcoming early learning center in Albuquerque, NM. Pay is $20.00/hour, with a Monday–Friday schedule and a 9:00 AM–6:00 PM workday including a one-hour lunch break.

In this hands-on role, you will perform general maintenance, painting, furniture assembly, basic plumbing and electrical work, and preventative upkeep. You will help ensure safe, clean spaces for children and staff and report issues promptly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with maintenance/handyman experience.
• Must be able to lift more than 40 pounds and stay active during the day.
• Able to safely use common hand and power tools; background screening may be required for licensed early childhood environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform general facility maintenance and repairs around the center.
• Paint touch-ups and furniture assembly, installation, and minor repairs.
• Basic plumbing repairs and troubleshooting.
• Basic electrical maintenance and minor repairs.
• General facility upkeep and preventative maintenance.
• Identify safety or maintenance concerns before they escalate.

When you're maintaining a school, the details matter. A loose cabinet, a room that needs fresh paint, furniture waiting to be assembled, or a small repair can directly affect the children and teachers using that space every day.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, notices what needs attention, and enjoys being the person others can count on to get things fixed and keep our facility looking its best.

What You'll Do:

This is a hands-on position with plenty of variety. You'll help with general facility maintenance and repairs throughout the center, including:

• Light painting and touch-ups.
• Furniture assembly, installation, and minor repairs.
• Basic plumbing repairs and troubleshooting.
• Basic electrical maintenance and minor repairs.
• General facility upkeep and preventative maintenance.
• Identifying maintenance or safety concerns before they become larger problems.
• Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
• Helping maintain safe, clean, functional spaces for children and staff.

Who We're Looking For:

• We're looking for someone who is handy, dependable, and safety-conscious.
• You should be able to work independently, communicate well with our team, manage multiple small projects, and take pride in completing work correctly. Because you'll be working in an early childhood environment, professionalism, good judgment, and awareness of children's safety are especially important.

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or GED is required, along with experience performing general maintenance, handyman, construction, property maintenance, or similar work.
• Candidates must be able to lift more than 40 pounds, remain active throughout the workday, safely use common hand and power tools, and complete any background screening required for individuals working within a licensed early childhood environment.
