Job summary

Synthomer in Akron, OH is seeking a maintenance technician to support daily operations and equipment performance. You will perform installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on process equipment and facility systems, with overtime as needed.

The role offers an hourly rate of $31.85 plus benefits and potential bonuses. Responsibilities include mechanical repairs, piping work, reading drawings, safe operation of forklifts, and participation in the Emergency Response Team.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school education with technical/engineering focus preferred.
• Journeyman card or equivalent technical degree/certification required.
• 2–5 years in maintenance/manufacturing; chemical/production facility a plus.
• Ability to operate safely in a high-paced environment and handle heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

• Follow safe work practices and support safety goals and objectives.
• Perform mechanical repairs on equipment, including replacement and installation of sleeves, bearings, gears, shafts and pins.
• Piping installation and material selection for each service.
• Read piping specifications and engineering drawings.
• Operate industrial equipment safely (forklifts, hoists, etc.).
• Repair and install machinery; troubleshoot steam systems; pump work.
• Steel and sheet metal fabrication.
• Participate in the Emergency Response Team.
• Maintain and improve preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
• Must lift up to 70 lbs or carry 50 lbs frequently; work from various heights.

What are we looking for?

With moderate supervision this person will be responsible for maintaining daily operation of the equipment, preventative maintenance on process equipment and facility systems, providing emergency repairs as needed. This position will be responsible for installation of new equipment and inspection and repair of existing equipment. The position will be required to work overtime as needed.

Hourly rate of $31.85 per hour; plus opportunity to enroll in dental, medical, vision and 401K benefits; PTO of up to 3 weeks per year; opportunity for an annual company bonus; and opportunity for perfect attendance days!

What You’ll Own In This Role

• Follow safe work practices and support safety goals and objectives.
• Makes all necessary mechanical repairs on equipment, including replacement, repair and installation of sleeves, bearings gears, shafts, pins, etc.
• Piping installation and ability to determine correct materials for each service.
• Can read and understand piping specification and engineering drawings.
• Safe operation of industrial equipment such as forklifts, hoists, etc.
• Machinery repair and installation.
• Troubleshoot and repair steam systems.
• Pump repair and installation.
• Steel and sheet metal fabrication.
• Participate on the Emergency Response Team.
• Maintains and improves preventative/predictive maintenance programs.
• Must be able to lift objects weighing 70 lbs. or more and/or frequent lift/carry 50 lbs. or more, employee must be able to work from all heights.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

• High School Diploma/GED
• Must have one of the following:
• Journeymen’s Card, or
• 2-Year Technical Degree, mechanical in nature, or
• Trade School Certification
• 2-5 years’ experience in maintenance manufacturing environment preferably in a chemical / production facility
• 2-5 years mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment
• Capable of working in a high paced environment
• Able to handle up to fifty (50) pounds and physical dexterity to assemble polymerization reactors
• Working knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel, E-Mail)
