Location: Sacred Medicine House

Chief Seattle Club provides permanent, affordable and supportive housing to residents (primarily native American/Alaska Native) at our housing projects: ?al?al, Goldfinch Elder's Housing, Salmonberry Lofts, Sweet Grass Flats, and Sacred Medicine House. Along with housing comes wrap-around support services to help residents live healthy and sustainable lives.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician III is a senior responsible for expert maintenance, repair, and oversight at the Sacred Medicine House location. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this technician ensures the safety and functionality of buildings and common areas. Duties include troubleshooting HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and safety systems, assisting in renovation projects, and coordinating vendors. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to service, creating safe and welcoming environments. Must work independently and as part of a team, be dependable, and exercise good judgment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Troubleshoots building repairs at Sacred Medicine House.
  • Assists with apartment make-ready procedures to include turnovers.
  • Troubleshoots issues with building systems.
  • Handles emergency cleaning and upkeep requests.
  • Makes regular inspections of the grounds and buildings.
  • Ensures that the common amenity spaces are prepared and cleaned each day, always keeping an upkept appearance.
  • Safely operates electric and battery powered equipment such as vacuums, buffers, burnishes, auto scrubbers, drills, shop-vac etc. Removes trash and debris: transports trash, recycling, and debris properly protected.
  • Mid-level maintenance such as plumbing repairs, replacing appliance parts, garbage disposals, drywall, and paint as needed.
  • Keeps cleaning and maintenance supply inventory up to date and requests specific items as needed.
  • Supports and works with general contractors and vendors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/ GED and 5+ years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in residential or nonprofit settings, specifically in apartment turnovers and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and safety standards (OSHA, local housing codes). Must have the ability to follow directions and established safety procedures including knowledge of chemical usage and dilutions.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365, and general knowledge of computers.
  • Highly organized, flexible, independent, culturally sensitive, and detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.
  • Must be capable of working independently and identifying problems or irregularities for timely resolution.
Licenses/Certifications
  • EPA 608 Certification, OSHA 30, and/or Building Operator Certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record in the past 2 years and must have reliable transportation to get between all properties.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrate a strong understanding of individuals supported by mission-driven non-profit organizations.

The Maintenance Technician III primarily works across multiple residential facilities, which may include transitional housing units, permanent supportive housing, and community spaces. These settings serve vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

The work environment may involve:

  • Indoor and outdoor settings, including occupied and unoccupied residential units.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions while traveling between properties or performing outdoor tasks.
  • Occasional work in confined spaces (crawlspaces, attics) or at heights (ladders, rooftops).
  • Interactions with residents, including those who may be in crisis; requires professionalism, empathy, and a trauma-informed approach.
  • On-call rotation or emergency response duties outside of standard business hours.

The position operates in a collaborative environment, frequently interacting with property management staff, case managers, external contractors, and fellow maintenance team members. Safety, clear communication, and mission alignment are essential aspects of the work culture.

Physical Requirements
This role is physically demanding and requires the ability to:
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods
  • Lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials for up to 50 pounds
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Perform repetitive motions such as hammering, screwing, and lifting
  • Work in environments that may include dust, chemicals, noise, and odors
  • Operate maintenance equipment such as HVAC testing devices, power drills, saws, and plumbing tools
  • Perform visual inspections and read small print on equipment, manuals, and electronic devices
