Job summary

Trinity Health seeks a full‑time Buildings & Grounds technician to install, inspect, repair and maintain hospital machinery, equipment and grounds. The role requires a high school diploma, a vocational certificate, and a journeyman's license within six months of starting. Three years of relevant maintenance experience and strong customer service are expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Repair and/or replace components of plumbing and piping systems and maintain drainage.
• Maintain irrigation systems and perform related repairs; no new installation work.
• Repair and/or replace electrical components up to 120V; no new installs.
• Maintain and repair building hardware, fixtures and furnishings; keep areas clean.
• Maintain hospital equipment; replace defective or unsafe parts.
• Weld or solder sheet metal as required for repairs.
• Order materials correctly; log time and materials in work orders.
• Respond to snow/ice removal; ensure safe walking/driving conditions.
• Keep work areas neat; be available for call-ins during inclement weather.

Description

Accountability Objectives: Under the supervision of the Director and/or Supervisors of the Buildings & Grounds Department, the employee installs, inspects, repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment, hospital furnishings and grounds.

Position Qualifications

A. Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Vocational school certificate.

B. Licensure / Certification

• Journeyman's license in mechanical trade must be obtained within 6 months of start of position.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics.
• Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

D. Experience

• Technical, vocational or on-the-job training in at least three of the following: HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting or Engine Repair.
• Three years related working experience in building maintenance.

Duties / Responsibilities

• Responsible for the repair and/or replacement of components of plumbing and piping systems, including the cleaning of blocked drainage systems. Responsible for irrigation system maintenance and repair. Will not be responsible for new installation work. Will be able to solder pipe to 3/4" trade size for replacement
• Responsible for the repair and/or replacement of components of electrical systems, utilizing voltages of 120 Volts nominal or less. Will not be responsible for new installation work.
• Responsible for the repair and/or replacement of components of ceiling, wall, floor, door hardware and building hardware. Responsible for cleanliness of grounds, buildings, drives and parking lots. Will not be responsible for new installation work.
• Responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of hospital equipment and furnishings, and for the replacement of defective parts or unsafe or malfunctioning parts.
• Responsible for the welding and soldering of sheet metal and other metal products as required.
• Responsible for correct material orders and amount requested. Utilize the department work order system to record time and material.
• Responsible for snow and ice removal. Maintains safe walking and driving conditions.
• Cleans and maintains work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
• Being available for "call-ins" and "on-call" status during inclement weather and for other emergency situations.
