Job summary

Okaloosa County Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform repair and replacement work across electrical, plumbing, painting and welding for the county correctional facility’s buildings and equipment.

The role involves designing and fabricating items and equipment, and occasionally directing inmate crews. The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED with two years of related experience; a valid driver license is required, and arc welding certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus two years of plumbing/electrical experience or equivalent.
• Requires a valid driver license; arc welding certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and replaces electrical, plumbing, structural components and equipment (e.g., jail doors, cameras, washing machines, kettles, dryers, stoves, air conditioners, toilets, sinks, telephones, sprinkler systems).
• Designs, fabricates and welds equipment and other items.
• Directs the work of an inmate crew or individual inmates as needed.
• Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools and vehicles per policy and good trade practice.
• Performs various record maintenance duties (work orders, materials and supplies used, cost estimates, labor, maintenance logs).
• Operates man lifts up to 28 feet.
• Reports deterioration or maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Assists with planning, estimating and coordination of complex tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
