Position Overview
This position will communicate and support John’s Manville core values and deliver the JM experience. The Maintenance Technician will perform routine and non‑routine maintenance on production and facility equipment to support the production of roofing materials, meet facility safety, productivity, and machine uptime targets, and conduct problem‑solving and troubleshooting to develop corrective actions.
Compensation
The base hourly rate for this position is $35.04.
Responsibilities
- Follow all John’s Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies, attend plant safety and training meetings, and report hazardous conditions.
- Develop and review Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for new and existing tasks.
- Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Install and repair electrical conduit, cable, and related components; use schematics to troubleshoot or install new or modified equipment.
- Conduct voltage, current, power, and other electrical measurements to inspect equipment and report defective parts or unsatisfactory conditions.
- Maintain, adjust, service, and lubricate equipment to keep it in good operating condition.
- Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
- Assist co‑workers as directed and complete other work assigned by supervisor.
- Provide feedback and solutions to leadership on critical equipment safety or operational issues.
- Display a flexible outlook toward change management, cross‑functional teamwork, training for new tools, and willingness to obtain operating knowledge of all production equipment.
- Participate in daily housekeeping, keeping job sites and the maintenance shop clean.
Leadership Responsibilities
While this position has no direct reports, the Technician must interact as a leader with all plant department employees and work with plant supervision to communicate the status of planned and unplanned jobs and any engineering or technical resource needs.
Requirements
- Signed off on all Maintenance Technician I job qualifications.
- 2-5 years of multi‑craft maintenance experience.
- Strong commitment to safety and ability to work well with others.
- Excellent problem‑solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, handle multiple priorities and projects.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and preventive repair of pumps, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, seals, rotating elements, blowers, fans, hydraulic units, valves, chillers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude, including pipe fitting and fabricating.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, and shop machinery such as hydraulic press, mill and drill press, lathe, and saws.
- General knowledge of building lighting, AC/heating, fire alarm, and lock‑tag‑clear programs.
- General knowledge of PLC and VFD troubleshooting, and 480 V system safety with NFPA 70E arc‑flash training.
- Ability to diagnose process heating and cooling equipment.
- Consistent decision‑making ability while remaining flexible with work assignments and priorities.
- Local travel for training purposes.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for extended periods.
- Manually lift, push, or pull at least 50 lb safely using proper body mechanics.
- Use hands for repetitive motion, grabbing, feeling, and pulling.
- Work safely in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
- Work in an often‑dusty environment with a broad range of temperatures (very hot to very cold).
- Endure a 12‑ or 8‑hour rotating shift schedule.
- Bend, stoop, or kneel repetitively; reach or work above shoulder height.
