Job summary

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. in Dunkirk, NY, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment across the facility.

You will inspect, repair, assemble, and adjust conveyors, mill stands, furnaces, and related machinery while following safety standards. Candidates should read blueprints, operate material handling tools, and perform welding as needed.

Qualifications

• As trade-school mechanical/electrical disciplines preferred.
• Knowledge of hydraulics/pneumatics/electrical systems required.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
• Must be able to pass Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude tests RR110 and RR16-A.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment in assigned areas and throughout the facility.
• Perform miscellaneous repair work including pumps, boiler, pipe fitting, etc.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain rolling mill equipment, furnace mechanical equipment, and related machinery.
• Assemble, dismantle and adjust mechanical and hydraulic equipment (conveyors, mill stands, housings).
• Perform welding, cutting, and burning when needed.
• Interpret blueprints and technical sketches.
• Operate overhead crane and/or fork truck to move supplies and equipment.
• Maintain a safe and clean working area and handle other duties as assigned.

Primary Function

• Maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment in assigned areas, and throughout facility.

Primary responsibilities are defined by the following, but those listed are not all-inclusive:

• Perform miscellaneous repair work, including but not limited to installing pumps, boiler repair, pipe fitting, etc.
• Inspects, repairs, and maintains facility equipment, including but not limited to rolling mill equipment, furnace mechanical equipment, mechanical shears, annealing equipment.
• Assemble, dismantle and adjust mechanical, and hydraulic equipment, including but not limited to conveyors, mill stands, mill housings, etc.
• Perform welding, cutting, and burning when needed.
• Interprets blueprints, and technical sketches.
• Operate overhead crane and/or fork truck to move supplies and equipment.
• Maintains a safe, and clean working area.
• Any and all duties assigned.

Sources of Supervision

• Generally, works independently and requires minimum direction.
• Position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance.

Tools and Equipment

Drill press, power saw, portable drill and grinders, bench tools, cutting torch, welding and burning equipment, overhead pendant crane, chain clocks and falls, air hoists, pipe wrenches, crow bars, sledges, eye bolts, hammers, pressure, flow gauges, cold chisels, punches, gauges, grab hooks, hydraulic fitting die press, and miscellaneous hand tools.

• Must be trained in all areas of mechanical testing and repairs
• Successfully pass the Ransey Mechanical Aptitude test RR110 and Ramsey Mech Test RR16-A
• Successfully pass the applicable Technical College Test Stand
• Must be able to walk management through schematics
