Job summary

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. in Dunkirk, NY, is seeking a Maintenance Tech for a full-time hourly position.

The role focuses on maintaining and repairing mechanical and hydraulic equipment across the facility, including rolling mill and furnace systems. Responsibilities include installing pumps, boiler repairs, pipe fitting, reading blueprints, operating cranes, and ensuring a safe, clean workplace.

Qualifications

• AS trade school preferred in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
• Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics/electrical systems.
• Knowledge of steel-related or industrial environments.
• Trained in mechanical testing and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment in assigned areas and throughout the facility.
• Perform repairs including pumps, boiler, pipe fitting, and related tasks.
• Inspect and maintain rolling mill and furnace equipment.
• Assemble, dismantle and adjust conveyors, mill stands, and related equipment.
• Perform welding, cutting and burning as needed.
• Interpret blueprints and technical sketches.
• Operate overhead crane and/or fork truck to move supplies and equipment.
• Maintain a safe, clean working area.
• Other duties as assigned.

Primary Function

• Maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment in assigned areas, and throughout facility.

Primary responsibilities are defined by the following, but those listed are not all-inclusive:

• Perform miscellaneous repair work, including but not limited to installing pumps, boiler repair, pipe fitting, etc.
• Inspects, repairs, and maintains facility equipment, including but not limited to rolling mill equipment, furnace mechanical equipment, mechanical shears, annealing equipment.
• Assemble, dismantle and adjust mechanical, and hydraulic equipment, including but not limited to conveyors, mill stands, mill housings, etc.
• Perform welding, cutting, and burning when needed.
• Interprets blueprints, and technical sketches.
• Operate overhead crane and/or fork truck to move supplies and equipment.
• Maintains a safe, and clean working area.
• Any and all duties assigned.

Sources of Supervision

• Generally, works independently and requires minimum direction.
• Position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance.

Tools and Equipment

Drill press, power saw, portable drill and grinders, bench tools, cutting torch, welding and burning equipment, overhead pendant crane, chain clocks and falls, air hoists, pipe wrenches, crow bars, sledges, eye bolts, hammers, pressure, flow gauges, cold chisels, punches, gauges, grab hooks, hydraulic fitting die press, and miscellaneous hand tools.
