Job summary

University of South Carolina, Aiken campus, is seeking a Maintenance Tech (General Maintenance Technician I) to perform a variety of trades-related duties under supervision. The position is housed in USC Aiken Facilities Administration with a salary range of $36,608 to $44,845 per year.

Responsibilities include plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, and preventive maintenance across campus facilities. A technical school accreditation or equivalent training is preferred, with a high school

Qualifications

  • Requires accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and no prior work experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • High school graduate or GED with 3 years experience in the Trades Worker field.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment & materials used in general building maintenance & construction trades applicable to the job.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains plumbing inventory. Installs plumbing fixtures & repairs/modifies existing systems. Eliminates leaks by repacking/replacing faulty valves, fittings, pipe sections. Installs/repairs lavatories, toilets.
  • Responsible for campus wide, in-house, painting & drywall repairs in new & renovated areas. Performs routine repairs, installations, construction & renovation tasks including carpentry and masonry.
  • Maintains vehicle fleet including buses, to ensure they are gassed, cleaned, washed, and maintained per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Performs/assists with a variety of simple preventive/corrective maintenance work on electrical units, appliances and equipment including changing lamps or filters, etc. as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Position Description

Maintenance Tech (General Maintenance Technician I), Salary: $36,608 - $44,845 per year, USCA Facilities Administration

Under direct supervision of Maintenance Supervisor, performs trades related duties to accomplish facilities/equipment preventive maintenance, installations, construction and renovation tasks. May work in a crew or independently.

Qualifications

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications High school graduate or GED w/3 years experience in the Trades Worker field. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Considerable knowledge of tools, equipment & materials used in general building maintenance & construction trades applicable to the job. Considerable knowledge of the techniques, methods & practices of the designated trades areas.
