Job summary

Owens Corning is seeking an on-site Maintenance Team Lead to set up, repair, and maintain machinery, fabricate parts, source spare parts, and direct Maintenance Techs. The role requires a two-year maintenance certificate or in-progress training and at least five years of manufacturing maintenance experience.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints and schematics, diagnosing PLCs, wiring, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems, and performing welding with plasma cutting. OSHA safety rules apply.

Job description

Job Overview

The Maintenance Team Lead is an hourly position reporting to the Technical Leader. The employee will set up, install, repair, and maintain machinery and equipment, fabricate parts and tools, acquire and maintain spare parts, and schedule and direct Maintenance Techs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform work requiring knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electronic theory and principles, wiring specifications, local and national electrical codes, and properties of various materials.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic issues.
  • Service manufacturing and test equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Read and understand ladder logic of programmable controllers.
  • Read and understand pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
  • Weld using wire and stick welding, and use a plasma cutter.
  • Demonstrate extensive technical knowledge of electronics and troubleshoot PLCs.
  • Complete work in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
  • Requisition and maintain a supply of spare parts and the spare part inventory system.
  • Modify programming of robots and related equipment such as robot controllers and programmable controllers.
  • Fabricate and/or modify equipment as required using machine tools, hand tools, and electronic components.
  • Maintain and ensure completion of preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Track work activities in a downtime log.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and pass a drug screen and employment physical.
  • Hold a two‑year maintenance vocational training certificate or be in the process of completing one.
  • Have at least five years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing background.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Language Skills

  • Read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and procedure instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, co‑workers, and management.

Mathematical Skills

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 65 lbs.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts and be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Work with fiberglass insulation.
  • Work in an environment where noise level is usually moderate.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety rules of the facility.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Inform the plant of any safety concerns.
  • Ensure all safety work orders and observations are addressed.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.
