Job summary

Winland Foods is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate installation, repair, and routine maintenance of facilities and machinery at our Columbia, SC site.

You will supervise maintenance leads and technicians, ensuring PM schedules, safety compliance, and budget adherence while collaborating with engineering and OEM vendors. A strong mechanical and electrical background is essential, with SAP CMMS experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred for advanced maintenance roles.
  • High School Diploma or GED required as minimum qualification.
  • 10+ years of maintenance manufacturing experience preferred, food manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Experience with CMMS; SAP experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of SQF/BRC and environmental/safety regulations preferred.
  • English language proficiency (read, write, speak) and good communication skills.
  • Basic math and data analysis to guide decisions.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and present to senior management.
  • Define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate installation, repair and maintenance of facilities and machinery.
  • Supervise Maintenance Leads and Technicians under Plant Engineering/Maintenance Manager guidance.
  • Coach and train staff on technical skills to maintain critical assets.
  • Generate work orders and assign tasks; monitor PM compliance (SAP records).
  • Inspect facilities and perform proactive maintenance to prevent downtime.
  • Ensure safety, budget adherence, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with OEM vendors on capital equipment installations.
  • Monitor inventory of materials and spare parts; manage documentation.

Job description

Maintenance Supervisor coordinates the installation, repair and maintenance of facilities and machinery. Will work with technicians and other maintenance employees. Organize and monitor or supervise the maintenance operations of a facility. The maintenance Supervisor also provide technical assistance to department Managers and Maintenance Manager. Ensure Maintenance Technicians and Leads follow all maintenance and safety standards while performing their responsibilities in an organization.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with Planner/Scheduler to execute maintenance schedules in line with the organization’s maintenance goals and monitoring PM compliance (SAP recordkeeping will come into play).
  • Frequently inspect facilities to proactively detect potential problems and recommend the necessary repair or maintenance.
  • Oversee and enforce good record-keeping practices (be it pen and paper or through electronic system).
  • Supervise Maintenance Leads and Maintenance Technicians, with direction of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Coach and train maintenance technicians and leads on technical skills required to maintain the plant’s critical assets.
  • Generate work orders, enter comprehensive job details, and assign work to qualified team members.
  • Routinely inspect the quality of performed maintenance work.
  • Communicate policies, procedures, and expectations to maintenance staff.
  • Check that every single job is executed on time, to the budget, and without compromising building users’ safety.
  • Work closely with OEM vendors when installing capital equipment.
  • Monitor raw materials and spare parts inventory.
  • Help with the development of maintenance procedures and proactive maintenance programs like preventative maintenance.
  • Recommend budget items, contributing to the development of an annual maintenance budget.
  • Recommend upgrades, overhauls, and other changes to major systems and equipment.
  • Manages the site lubrication strategy.
  • Actively discuss staff-related challenges with the Engineering Manager.
  • Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting, problem solving activities and maintenance repairs to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.
  • Check that the premises are safe and not in violation of any regulations.
  • Communicate directly with building occupants to resolve service requests.
  • Must be able to be on call 24/7 when an emergency need arises.

Supervision: Reports directly to Plant Engineering/Maintenance Manager

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 10 years of maintenance manufacturing experience preferred, food manufacturing preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Experience with utilizing a CMMS (SAP experience preferred)
  • Working knowledge of food safety and food quality standards and regulations such as SQF or BRC and environmental and safety regulations preferred
  • Competency in English language (read, write, speak); excellent written, oral, and listening skills
  • Requires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide combined with analytical skills used to track and trend data and be able to use that data to guide decisions and communications with associates
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior management
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong knowledge of building trades, cleaning procedures and maintenance
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and practices

Working environment:
