Los Alamos National Laboratory is hiring a Maintenance Support Specialist 2/3 to support Work Control in planning, scheduling, and CMMS tasks onsite in Los Alamos, NM. The MSS will help develop and audit performance data, implement standardized maintenance plans, and maintain maintenance policies and training. The 2 level requires a Bachelor's degree and ~5 years related experience; the 3 level requires Bachelor’s and ~8 years.

U.S. citizenship and a Q clearance are required.

Job description

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at a Maintenance Support Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.

The Maintenance Support Specialist (MSS) reports to the MSS-WC Work Management Center (WMC) Team Leader and provides necessary support to develop, monitor, and validate the accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information, and supports the development and implementation of Standardized Preventative Maintenance plans and routines in line with company policy, procedures, engineering guidelines and maintenance strategy. This position also develops and maintains maintenance policies, processes, procedures and provides training in support of the conduct of maintenance program. Lastly, this position will assist with the coordination and maintenance of the maintenance work execution schedule.

Maintenance Support Specialist 2 ($72,800 - $115,400)

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Provide assistance in interpreting governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
• Develop and monitor auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
• Maintain databases and other programs as needed for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
• Assist in implementing related documentation systems and ensure compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
• Help evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
• Assist in coordinating, updating, and overall support in maintaining the maintenance work execution schedule.
• Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to maintenance and quality assurance programs.

Maintenance Support Specialist 3 ($87,800 - $143,000)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level this position:

• Interprets governmental regulations and Laboratory policies impacting the maintenance program to ensure compliance.
• Develops, monitors and validates accuracy, and auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule.
• Maintains database and other programs as required for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
• Evaluates and recommends processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
• Provides issues management support, reviews and compiles data, and develops final management assessments and/or recommendations.
• Performs performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.
• Implements related documentation systems and ensures compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
• May conduct training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance programs and evaluate and critique performance.
• May provide formal and informal training in the use of various maintenance program processes and evaluate and critique performance.
• May serve as liaison between the Laboratory and various governmental agencies.

Strategic Communication: Ability to conceptualize and professionally communicate elements of facility maintenance processes supporting the maintenance programs stakeholders, including technical and non-technical personnel, in both verbal and written formats. Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Business Processes & Systems: Full understanding of and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. Working knowledge of and experience with document control and records management. Working knowledge of business and maintenance program systems, quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, and the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.

Technical Competency: Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance. Skill to prepare and present reports.

Additional Job Requirements for Maintenance Support Specialist 3 Level

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

Strategic Communication: Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to work independently under minimal direction. Skill in the preparation and presentation of reports.

Business Processes and Systems: In-depth knowledge and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. In depth knowledge of and experience with document control and records management, and a clear understanding of work hazards, safety practice policies and procedures. In-depth knowledge of business and maintenance program systems, quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, and the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.

Education/Experience at Maintenance Support Specialist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience Maintenance Support Specialist 3 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications

• Direct experience performing work using any computerized LANL facility management tools that may include Footprints, Asset Suite, EDRMS, etc.
• Primavera (P6) working knowledge.
• Active Q clearance.
• Mobile Work Package experience.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q

Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
