Job summary

Maker's Pride in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Second shift Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance team, ensure equipment reliability and GMP compliance, and coordinate with production and quality staff to keep lines running smoothly.

You will mentor technicians, manage daily schedules, enforce a 5S environment, and drive continuous improvement while upholding safety and OSHA standards, training associates and communicating across shifts to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Two-year college degree in business or related field preferred; four-year college degree a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word); strong communication and leadership skills required.

Job Summary

The Second shift Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising and executing all aspects of the Maintenance department with customers, suppliers, local and corporate‑wide Maker’s Pride employees, and the manufacturing staff. The incumbent trains and mentors maintenance team members and supports the facility to ensure the utmost quality of all products produced and packaged at the plant.

Job Duties
  • Overall direction, coordination and evaluation of maintenance employees, including direct supervision of lead/technician staff.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state and local laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, appraising, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving employee complaints.
  • Maintain a 5S environment.
  • Schedule, maintain and approve maintenance employee work hours daily and address scheduling or payroll‑related issues.
  • Comply with customer service and company standards.
  • Review production and operating reports, resolve operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems, and prevent operational delays. Inspect machines and equipment for performance and utilization.
  • Handle employee complaints, submit unresolved issues to the Employee & Community Relations Manager, and manage all disciplinary actions.
  • Train, develop and evaluate employees to meet future needs.
  • Attend meetings and make presentations as needed.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.
  • Comply with safety, health, environmental regulations and all company rules, regulations and policies.
Required Competencies & Knowledge
  • Makers Pride procurement, products and production processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with EAM and SAP.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E Arc Flash program.
  • Knowledge of gas‑fired ovens, including gas trains, pressure switches, safety circuits and zone balancing.
Skilled In
  • Electrical knowledge: AC/DC circuits, motor controls and troubleshooting/repair of up to 480‑volt systems.
  • PLC troubleshooting (limited programming skills required).
  • Power transmission troubleshooting/repair.
  • Reading blueprints (facility and infrastructure), ladder logic and pneumatic systems.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Prioritizing work based on short‑ and long‑term objectives.
  • Data analysis and presentation to multiple organizational levels.
  • Personnel and performance management.
Ability To
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Requirements
  • Use hands and fingers; reach with hands/arms throughout the shift.
  • See, hear and talk; distinguish colors; work in light to moderate noise levels where hearing protection is required.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts; be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and vibration.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
  • Lift or move up to 50 lbs.; push or pull items up to 2600 lbs. with assistance.
  • Walk up to 100 yards to work and break areas.
  • Climb steps to and from work and break areas.
  • Perform repetitive reaching overhead, under and across throughout the shift.
  • Repetitive bending, stooping and twisting throughout the shift.
  • Crawl under equipment to reach work area.
  • Stand eight hours per shift.
  • Work in excess of 40 hours per week.
  • Perform general housekeeping, including sweeping and mopping.
  • Work in variable temperatures and weather conditions; work in wet, humid areas.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Two‑year college degree in business or a related field preferred; four‑year college degree a plus.
  • Experience in a non‑union manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Excellent communication, conflict management, decision‑making, motivation and organizational skills required.
  • Strong self‑confidence and leadership skills required.

MS Office Suite, EAM and SAP.
