Duties

The position functions as the Maintenance Supervisor for Facilities Management Service at the White River Junction VA Medical Center. The position has full responsibility for all aspects of the Medical Center's Operations and Maintenance Program. The M&O Supervisor provides full supervisory oversight and guidance to a diverse and multi-disciplined staff. This position is critical to maintaining and supporting the necessary physical operational

environment required to provide medical support, care, and services to our Veteran population. The position operates independently autonomously without daily oversight or input and is expected and required to make timely and accurate decisions to ensure continuity of services and mitigation of any breaks in service.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Primarily responsible for the administration and supervision of all maintenance for the facility.
  • Manages directly, or indirectly inhouse projects performed by shops.
  • Serves as the primary contact for after hour calls, coordinating responses and interventions to ensure maintenance, repairs, and safety.
  • Serves as a liaison between the shops, FMS Leadership including engineering and the projects section.
  • Creates follow-up measures on critical or urgent items identified during internal and external inspection activities (i.e. Environment of Care Rounds, Joint Commission, OSHA, Annual Workplace Evaluations (AWE), etc.).
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of utilizing man-hours, equipment and funding resources to meet user, program, and mission needs.
  • Continually monitors progress and trends on in-house projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance.
  • Recommends adjustments and rescheduling, as necessary, to respond to changing conditions and emergency or urgent needs and delays.
  • Exchange information and coordinate maintenance planning and scheduling with user, maintenance and repair personnel, building tenants, equipment operators, contractors, and others.
  • Estimates materials for repair, minor improvement, maintenance and station labor projects to provide management with cost figures and estimates of labor for special projects, preventive maintenance, equipment repair, and improvement projects by determining the scope of work, work requests, and worksite and hourly performance standards for each trade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of utilizing man-hours, equipment and funding resources to meet user, program, and mission needs.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
