Job summary

Chestnut Labs is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for our Springfield, MO Retort Plant. You will lead daily maintenance operations, develop a skilled team, and drive preventive/predictive maintenance to keep equipment reliable and safe.

The role requires 2–5 years in maintenance with leadership, electrical and boiler experience, and familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley). We offer growth opportunities and a competitive compensation package.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/education.
  • 2–5 years of maintenance or related experience with leadership aptitude.
  • Electrical experience with motor control circuitry up to 480-volt 3 phase required.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience with Allen Bradley systems desired.
  • Boiler experience required.
  • HVAC experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ammonia systems a plus.
  • Experience leading safety policies and procedures.
  • Certifications/licenses preferred (electrical, welding, boiler, refrigeration, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and assign daily jobs and work orders; provide clear directions to maintenance staff.
  • Implement a predictive/preventive maintenance program to extend asset life and reduce downtime.
  • Use SAP to plan tasks with time, parts, and descriptions.
  • Ensure maintenance staff understand work practices and procedures.
  • Assist maintenance manager to complete PM work orders on time.
  • Oversee repairs and maintenance of all plant equipment.
  • Maintain records using CMMS/databases and monitor spare parts inventory.
  • Support root cause analysis for breakdowns and failures.

Job description

Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at our Springfield, MO Retort Plant. In this hands‑on leadership role, you will oversee daily maintenance operations, lead and develop a skilled maintenance team, and drive preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives that support a safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prioritize and assign daily jobs and work orders and provide clear directions to maintenance employees. Oversee pass down issues. Monitor activities to ensure an efficient and safe maintenance operation.
  • Implement an effective predictive/preventive maintenance program which has a maintenance strategy for all assets to remove unscheduled down time and increase the lifespan of assets by keeping them in optimal condition with maintenance strategies, so assets are timely maintained to minimize costs of asset breakdowns.
  • Use systems (e.g., SAP) to support task planning with time required, parts required, and job descriptions to maximize maintenance activities during normal plant operation, in time made available during washes, planned downtime, and periodic maintenance shuts. Use project management charts detailing activities of planned downtime.
  • Ensure maintenance staff have a good understanding of work practices and procedures.
  • Assist the maintenance manager to ensure that all preventative maintenance work orders are completed within the given time. Assist with everyday maintenance issues and repairs.
  • Actively support and implement preventative maintenance programs; schedule and provide constant monitoring of the preventative maintenance program and make adjustments as needed.
  • Oversee the repairs and maintenance of all plant equipment.
  • Complete and maintain record keeping using databases and computerized maintenance management systems
  • Support work for proper root cause analysis on breakdowns or failures to ensure equipment breakdown issues are addressed and resolved.
  • Work with inventory or supply employees to ensure an adequate inventory of spare parts and equipment.
  • Remain current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation.
  • Complete supervisory activities such as administering employee promotions and transfers; reviewing and editing employee timekeeping; completing performance evaluations; mentoring, training, and coaching employees.
  • Follow all DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all company regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
  • 2 to 5 years of maintenance or related experience coupled with demonstrated leadership aptitude, team lead experience, or supervisory experience.
  • Electrical experience with motor control circuitry up to 480-volt 3 phase is required.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience with Allen Bradley systems is desired. (Programming is a plus).
  • Boiler experience is required.
  • HVAC experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and exposure to ammonia systems is a plus.
  • Experience leading and following safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork.
  • Adapt to changing operational needs and lead others through change.
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment; electrical, welding, boiler, refrigeration, compressed air, wastewater, or plumbing licenses or certificates preferred.
