Job summary

National Cement Company of Alabama, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Inspector/Supervisor to oversee daily maintenance activities and perform first-level preventive maintenance. The role includes supervising hourly workers and contractors and ensuring adherence to safety and MSHA requirements.

Job description

The Company currently has a need for a Maintenance Inspector/Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for the first level of preventive maintenance and failure prevention. The successful candidate will also participate in the supervision of hourly bargaining unit employees and contractors engaged in the daily maintenance activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs daily inspection of machinery and equipment at the plant.
• Participates in Workplace Exam processes including the performance of pre-shift inspection and follow-up on any findings to ensure MSHA compliance
• Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunctions.
• Work with the Maintenance Planner and Manager to set up equipment repairs schedules.
• Inspect plant equipment, both mechanical and electrical, on a prearranged schedule including - monitoring temperatures and, where applicable, maintaining a running log; checking for fluid leaks; observe equipment for proper operation; note any abnormalities such; prepare work orders necessary to perform accurate and lasting repairs; perform monthly NESHAP environmental required processes
• Assist production and maintenance departments in equipment troubleshooting
• Ensure plant maintenance, quality control, and maintenance performed by crews and/or contractors when required
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees when required
• Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques when required.
• Ensures the appropriate usage of parts, identifying improvement opportunities that will lead to higher equipment reliability, improved repair procedures or reduced cost when required.
• Communicates timely and effectively with the Maintenance Planner/Manager to keep them informed about major concerns.
• Subject to twenty-four (24) hour/day call-in for mission critical repairs.
• Lead work teams through example and motivation, instruction, coaching, discipline, and otherwise oversee employee work performance when required.
• Resolve employee issues to levels provided for within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies, behavior rules, plant rules, environmental and safety procedures, and laws.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure completion of work orders, preventive maintenance, and proactive identification of equipment reliability issues.
• Must comply with and enforce safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
• Ensure the competence of Mechanical Tradespersons through the identification training needs, and day to day coaching and counseling.
• Serve on interview panels for the selection of candidates for hire (as necessary).
• Conduct and/or provide input into performance evaluations, recommendations for promotions and disciplinary actions to include employee terminations.
• Provide work leadership and/or direction and schedule work in order to meet organizational and operational goals, objectives, and deadlines

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager

REQUIREMENTS

• Self motivator with good work ethics
• High school diploma or GED required, with 1-5 years related work experience preferred; or any combination of training and experience which provides the necessary required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job in a large industrial manufacturing industry.
• Subject to shift work including 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts Monday through Friday
• Physical Requirements: frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing.
• Some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures.
• Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English language, communicate positively with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
• Must be able to see and hear safety indicators and warnings.
• Pass required physical examination and drug screens.
• Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry, dusty and near hot kiln process.
• Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground).
• Climb stairs and ladders as high as 400 feet in elevation.
• Physical ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work.
• Ability to operate hand and foot controls with both hands and feet.
• Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
• Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
• Ability to work in cramped quarters.
• Drive vehicle to various work locations.
• Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces.
