Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor
Job Description
This role leads the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of maintenance activities in a manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to support Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost (SPQRC) objectives, while providing technical support to the manufacturing departments.
Responsibilities
- Establish, implement, and maintain long-range plans to improve maintenance activities across the facility.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to manufacturing departments on maintenance-related issues.
- Implement and actively support corporate safety policies, initiatives, and plant housekeeping standards.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine root causes, and initiate both immediate corrective actions and long-term solutions.
- Support the plant in achieving Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost goals.
- Supervise construction and maintenance projects to ensure they meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Assist in the implementation of divisional and corporate policies within the maintenance function.
- Maintain adherence to established schedules and quality standards for all maintenance work.
- Implement and enforce safety practices and good housekeeping standards within the maintenance team.
- Train, develop, and evaluate maintenance employees to build a high-performing, multi-trade workforce.
- Comply with the terms of Local and National Labor agreements and support divisional and corporate policies.
- Initiate and maintain effective communication with internal and external teams to resolve technical and operational problems.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement preventive and planned maintenance activities.
- Complete work assignments within budget, manpower, and timing constraints, while maintaining high quality.
- Manage and supervise a multi-trade maintenance workforce, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
- Handle multiple maintenance projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Skills
- Willingness and ability to work any assigned shift, including daily, weekend, and holiday overtime as required.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts as applied in a manufacturing setting.
- Hands-on experience in machine, assembly, and/or facility maintenance areas.
- Knowledge of how to ensure and maintain a safe industrial work environment.
- Proficiency in basic math, including trigonometry, for technical problem-solving.
- Experience performing clerical tasks related to maintenance, such as data gathering and machine studies.
- Proven experience supervising a multi-trade maintenance workforce.
- Strong knowledge of tooling, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
- High level of analytical ability to solve complex technical and operational problems.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate team members, and drive performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and effective information sharing.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using Lotus Notes or other email communication tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and exhibit strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at the same time.
- 8-10 years of relevant maintenance or maintenance supervision experience.
- Training in a skilled trades area or equivalent technical training.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience in maintenance management and preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience in supervision within a union environment is beneficial but not required.
- Experience specifically in maintenance supervision roles.
- Successful completion of behavior-based competency assessments (such as DDI inventories and assessments) measuring ability to learn, adaptability, initiative, motivational fit, decision making, results orientation, teamwork, empowerment, organization, and planning.
- Broad understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and general maintenance practices.
