Job description

As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor who will promote Marian University’s Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by keeping the university buildings and grounds clean, neat, and safe.

The job of General Maintenance Supervisor focuses on locksmith, carpentry, and other general maintenance responsibilities. It is established to provide maintenance services, light carpentry oversight, and ensure timely response to maintenance issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Actively engage with the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and adhering to institutional policies.
  2. Anticipate problems and develop creative and resourceful solutions.
  3. Supervise all non-MEP and Lighting maintenance crews, including carpenters, painters, plumbers, and general maintenance staff.
  4. Perform orientation and training for general maintenance technicians in conjunction with the Training Safety Manager.
  5. Oversee and perform carpentry repairs as needed.
  6. Manage a team of general maintenance technicians.
  7. Oversee key control and locksmith systems, including key inventory and electronic management.
  8. Manage daily activities related to building automation systems (BAS).
  9. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  10. Provide guidance to administration, faculty, staff, and students; contribute to strategic planning.
  11. Report directly to the Maintenance Manager.
  12. Attend all departmental training sessions.
  13. Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
  14. Follow all university and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  15. Perform all duties safely and effectively.
  16. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  17. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  18. Maintain strong organizational and time management skills to handle competing priorities.
  19. Ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and quality in work.
  20. Work independently with a motivated, self-directed work ethic.
  21. Identify problems and solve them effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED; or five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions and deal with standard problems involving concrete variables.

Physical Demands:

  1. Walking, pulling, bending, lifting, pushing, stooping, with the ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds.
  2. Climbing stairs and ladders up to 6 feet in height.
