Job summary

Family Service League is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee interior and exterior maintenance of the facility and supervise housekeeping staff. The role reports to the Operations Manager and ensures repairs align with Suffolk County regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing building maintenance and repairs.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, especially Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and conducting supervision and performance appraisals.
  • On-call responsibilities; including shift coverage.
  • Work independently and properly triage work orders according to importance.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with outside vendors.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems, as well as perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Prepare rooms for occupancy, including hanging sheet rock, spackle, painting, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform basic electrical and structural repairs or installations.
  • Perform mid-level plumbing duties: snake lines, remove and install toilets, and repair leaking pipes in ceilings, walls or under countertops.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled safety checks externally and internally throughout the building, including all equipment.
  • Maintain the interior of the property by performing routine maintenance tasks, including removal and replacement of light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging drains, drywall repair and painting.
  • Notify the Operations Manager timely of the need for repairs or replacement of equipment or furniture.
  • Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
  • Maintain the exterior of the property by blowing leaves, picking up trash and debris, sweeping, trimming, weeding, and removing snow and ice.
  • This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the property. The Maintenance Supervisor repairs the facility equipment and maintains the building structure, in accordance with Suffolk County regulations. Additionally, the Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the housekeeping staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience performing building maintenance and repairs required.

Prior experience with electrical, plumbing, spackle and paint, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, and groundskeeping required.

Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements preferred.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, is required. Knowledge of facilities management software preferred.

Valid and clean NYS Driver's License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires heavy lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be able to work overhead and on a ladder for sustained periods of time, and be able to bend and crouch to install flooring or seal tubs and toilets. Must be able to shovel snow from walkways. This position requires a lot of walking throughout the grounds and building, including going up and down stairs.
