Job summary

TerrAscend in Boonton, NJ is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead the facilities and maintenance team, ensuring the cultivation and processing facility runs at full capacity with minimal downtime.

The role oversees preventative maintenance, regulatory compliance, and team performance, with responsibilities spanning HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and packaging equipment. Availability for emergencies is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in facility maintenance in regulated environments (cannabis/pharma/food).
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
• Black Seal Certification strongly preferred.
• Experience in cannabis cultivation/processing facilities.
• Greenhouse maintenance experience.
• HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems knowledge.
• Experience creating and managing preventative maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency with CMMS and packaging/labeling equipment.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Supervisor will lead the facilities and maintenance team to ensure the cultivation and processing facility operates at full capacity with minimal downtime. This role is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations, implementing preventative maintenance programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing team performance. This role requires availability and communication outside of normal business hours to address emergencies.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the maintenance team to ensure timely completion of work orders and projects.
• Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify issues and ensure optimal performance.
• Oversee the repair of faulty equipment, systems, and damaged structures.
• Manage and maintain HVAC, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems to guarantee functionality.
• Manage repairs and maintenance of various automated packaging and labeling systems.
• Lead maintenance and preventative maintenance (PM) programs, including development, scheduling, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reporting systems.
• Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized working environment throughout the facility.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance staff on procedures, safety practices, and equipment use.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance management of maintenance personnel.
• Coordinate with cultivation, processing, and compliance teams to minimize operational disruptions.
• Oversee general facility upkeep including landscaping, painting, and carpentry as needed.
• Work flexible shifts as needed to support critical production tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a regulated environment (cannabis, pharmaceutical, food production, etc.).
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Black Seal Certification is strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a cannabis cultivation or processing facility
• Experience with Greenhouse maintenance
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Experience developing and managing preventative maintenance programs.
• Understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong computational skills and familiarity with Office suite.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Experience maintaining automated packaging and labeling equipment.
• Must satisfy the minimum age criteria mandated by applicable state cannabis regulations for this role.

$70,000 - $76,000 a year

Environmental Factors:

This position requires working in an environment that has a high amount of plant matter and pollen. Areas of the facility reach high/low temperatures with high humidity levels. Employees may have exposure to conditions such as dust, plant matter, and particles that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin, depending on department job assignments. Employees are required to wear protective gear and have the option to wear eye and ear protection. Certain areas of the facility use harsh chemicals for cleaning such as bleach and can have repetitive movements. Employees should be comfortable and capable of working under all of the above conditions.

Physical Requirements:

- Able to push, pull, lift, or move a minimum of 50lbs

- Capable of sitting, standing kneeling, bending, squatting, and/or walking for extended periods of time

- Capable of using hands and fingers to touch, handle, feel and pick

- Ability to work with hazardous chemicals (butane, propane, etc.) following strict safety guidelines

- Utilize chemicals (such as bleach) to clean and maintain facility/equipment

- Must wear PPE (clothing protection), close-toed non-slip shoes, and optional ear/eye protection
