Job summary

Clearwater Paper Corporation seeks an experienced Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for our Augusta, GA mill, home to the largest paperboard facility with 600+ team members. You will lead electricians and leadmen, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure safety and reliability of critical equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; associate/bachelor in Electrical Maintenance or Electronics preferred.
  • 5+ years electrical/electronics experience in a production facility; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook; CMMS experience preferred (JDE).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned electricians and leadmen with positive direction and management.
  • Reviews performance and coordinates maintenance with plant teams.
  • Develops crew through coaching, mentoring, and corrective action.
  • Plans weekly maintenance schedules and shutdowns.
  • Ensures safety practices and environmental responsibilities are followed.
  • Controls maintenance timelines and costs; ensures equipment reliability.

Job description

Augusta houses Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is home to more than 600 team members. Together, our team makes paperboard used in products across the United States, including food packaging, plates, cups and more. With nearly 65 years of operation, the mill spans 3,000 acres and runs two paper machines that collectively produce up to 1,940 tons per day.

What you will do
Organizational Leadership
  • Supervises assigned electricians and leadmen providing positive direction and management to assigned crews
  • Conducts performance reviews
  • Works closely with business unit managers, mechanical maintenance supervisors, shift supervisors, planning department, and department personnel to assure all electrical maintenance activities are coordinated and executed to established plans and schedules
  • Assesses the needs of the crew and implements developmental processes (e.g., coaching, counselling, taking corrective action, mentoring, etc.) to continuously improve their performance
  • Coordinates weekend and nightly mill wide calls
  • Aids in payroll approval process
  • Reviews job assignments
  • Oversees maintenance activities
Safety and Environmental
  • Provides regular inspections of work areas to assure that good housekeeping practices are followed and that all department area maintenance facilities and tools are kept in good repair
  • Instructs and leads crew in safe work practices in pursuit of zero injuries
  • Verifies that all safety recordkeeping is done in a timely manner
  • Ensures constructive safety meetings are conducted with timely follow-up on items of concern
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes electrical repairs on overhead cranes and lifting devices
  • Completes monthly inspections as scheduled
  • Supports the mill’s behavior-based safety program and assures that area maintenance employees are given the necessary time required for making safety observations
Production Maintenance, Project Planning and Execution
  • Coordinates own activities and those of area employees to assure that all E&I maintenance work is conducted in a low-cost culture and achieving optimum equipment and process reliability
  • Maintains a high level of awareness of all E&I maintenance activities being performed throughout the mill
  • Identifies and corrects any potential problems (troubleshooting) taking appropriate action as necessary to prevent serious equipment failure
  • Organizes and facilitates with planning department for development of weekly maintenance schedule
  • Develops and maintains crew schedules
  • Prioritizes, plans, organizes, and executes maintenance shutdowns and shop rebuilds
  • Controls maintenance timeline and cost
Equipment Reliability
  • Monitors equipment efficiency and preventive/predictive maintenance procedures to identify problems and set up corrective repairs
  • Maintains department repair records in a manner to best identify future preventive maintenance needs
  • Observes and identifies equipment which has excessive/repetitive maintenance costs
  • Processes purchase orders on equipment repairs
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes lubrication system oil analysis and schedules
  • Actively seeks and allocates appropriate decision-making authority or task responsibility to appropriate individuals based on their abilities, availability, motivation, and development needs; considers potential positive and negative impact, business unit priorities, organizational values, and the opportunity to enhance others’ knowledge and skills
  • Identifies barriers that impact customer service and retention; communicates concerns and recommendations to others
  • Uses understanding of customer needs and the organization’s customer service practices to set priorities, make decisions, and take actions that create customer satisfaction and prevent service issues from occurring
  • Creates relevant options for addressing problems and opportunities that will achieve desired outcomes
  • Systematically evaluates business opportunities, targeting those with the greatest potential for producing positive business results
What you will need
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Maintenance, Electronics, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years Electrical or Electronics experience in a production facility is required. Prior experience in a leadership position with supervisory experience preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook required
  • Experience using a Computer Maintenance Management System is required. (JDE preferred)
  • Must have good E&I and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to supervise employees
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces
  • Working at heights and confined spaces
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing process
