Job summary

Great Lakes Cheese, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance of all plant systems and coordinate preventative maintenance and external work.

You will supervise maintenance staff, ensure GMP compliance, and drive reliability across equipment and processes. Responsibilities include scheduling work orders, training personnel, coordinating with contractors, and implementing downtime planning.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or commensurate experience.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • 3 years of maintenance experience and/or training or more.
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Broad depth of experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical/mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Production and other departments to address issues with operating systems.
  • Deploy and utilize maintenance employees to ensure effective operation.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel are cross trained on equipment.
  • Monitor compliance with GMPs and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and schedule work orders and maintenance staff.
  • Identify recurring breakdowns and develop preventive measures.
  • Troubleshoot plant systems as needed.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance is performed on schedule.
  • Coordinate with contractors for repairs and installations.
  • Research price and availability of parts and upgrades.
  • Install new software and machine codes as needed.
  • Schedule downtime for machinery repairs.
  • Handle emergency repairs during production.
  • Adhere to safety policies and Safe Quality Food program standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Job description

The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise and schedule the maintenance of all plant systems. In addition, the Supervisor will supervise preventative maintenance program and coordinate work that is contracted to outside companies

Job Responsibilities
  • Communicate and work with Production and other departments to address issues/problems with operating systems.
  • Deploy and utilize maintenance employees to ensure effective and efficient operation.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel are cross trained on equipment.
  • Monitor and implement department work habits in compliance with good GMPs.
  • Coordinate and schedule work orders and necessary maintenance personnel.
  • Identify reoccurring equipment breakdowns and develop methods and modifications to prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot plant systems as necessary.
  • Monitor the preventative maintenance program to make sure equipment is serviced with its recommended time frame.
  • Contact contractors to schedule repairs and installations.
  • Research price and availability of new and replacement parts.
  • Ensure that upgrades are performed on existing equipment.
  • Install new software and/or machine codes.
  • Schedule down time to repair machinery.
  • Handle emergency repairs during production.
  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies & procedures.
  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
Required Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and/or commensurate experience.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • 3 years of maintenance experience and/or training or more.
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Broad depth of experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond routine issues.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical/mechanical drawings.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 3 years of food manufacturing experience or more.
  • Experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems / PSM.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
  • Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and pushing/pulling/carrying.
  • Product weight: up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
